Pairing anisotropy and macroscopic anisotropy of superconductors
Physical Review B, 1990Macroscopic properties of the superconductivity are investigated in the tight-binding picture taking account of the intersite pairing as well as the on-site pairing. We discuss the case of a layered material, a cubic material, and a quasi-one-dimensional material.

Annual Review of Materials Research, 2008
Wetting of single-crystal surfaces of metallic solids and oxides by liquid metals and alloys is anisotropic because of the anisotropy of the energies of solid surfaces and of their interfaces with liquids. To provide a basis for a discussion of wetting anisotropy, we review first the literature on surface and interfacial energies in metal-metal and ...

Abstract Optical anisotropic materials have an index of refraction that varies with the propagation direction in the material. These materials are said to be birefringent. In an anisotropic material, the two vectors E and D are no longer parallel to one another, requiring the use of tensors to describe birefringence.

Anisotropy of yttrium microhardness
Physica Status Solidi (a), 1981Polar and azimuthal diagrams of the microhardness of yttrium single crystals are constructed. The polar diagram of the microhardness in the (112x) planes with the c axis is close in its form to an ellipsoid of rotation around the [0001] direction with axes 90 and 40 kg/mm2.

Anisotropy in Fitness Landscapes
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1993A definition of empirical anisotropy is proposed, which allows for a quantitative measurement. This theory is applied to RNA free energy landscapes. It is shown that the biophysical GCAU landscapes are highly anisotropic, while the synthetic GCXK landscapes become isotropic for long chains. The major part of the anisotropy of the GCAU landscapes arises

Magnetic Anisotropy of Heterostructures
2007The chapter provides a detailed introduction to magnetic anisotropy of ferromagnetic ultrathin films and its analysis by ferromagnetic resonance on a tutorial level. While the microscopic origins of the magnetic anisotropy as well as recent developments in its theoretical description are shortly discussed, emphasis is put on a phenomenological ...
