Large-strain anisotropic behavior of meat during cooking: A finite element study [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Research in Food Science
This paper investigates the role of anisotropy in the deformation of meat during cooking, and how it influences transport properties such as diffusion and thermal conductivity.

Multiscale Modelling and Mechanical Anisotropy of Periodic Cellular Solids with Rigid-Jointed Truss-Like Microscopic Architecture [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Mechanics, 2021
This paper investigates the macroscopic anisotropic behavior of periodic cellular solids with rigid-jointed microscopic truss-like architecture. A theoretical matrix-based procedure is presented to calculate the homogenized stiffness and strength properties of the material which is validated experimentally.

Insights from the quantitative calibration of an elasto-plastic model from a Lennard-Jones atomic glass

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Physique, 2021
Quantitative multi-scale modeling of mechanical properties of disordered materials is still an open challenge. Bridging scales requires an intense dialogue between physics and mechanics to keep track of the complexity of the mechanisms at play ...

Impact of axisymmetric deformation on MR elastography of a nonlinear tissue-mimicking material and implications in peri-tumour stiffness quantification.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Solid tumour growth is often associated with the accumulation of mechanical stresses acting on the surrounding host tissue. Due to tissue nonlinearity, the shear modulus of the peri-tumoural region inherits a signature from the tumour expansion which ...

An Improved Coupled Modeling Method for Coalbed Methane Extraction after Hydraulic Fracturing

open access: yesGeofluids, 2022
This paper proposes an improved coupled modeling method for coalbed methane extraction after hydraulic fracturing. Based on the damage mechanics theory, we introduce a state damage variable to record the damage changes at different times and construct ...

Influence of Membrane Phase on the Optical Properties of DPH

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
The fluorescent molecule diphenylhexatriene (DPH) has been often used in combination with fluorescence anisotropy measurements, yet little is known regarding the non-linear optical properties.

Anisotropy of the mechanical properties of Li1·3Al0·3Ti1·7(PO4)3 solid electrolyte material [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Power Sources, 2019
Abstract Solid state lithium ion batteries have high potential for future energy storage since they promise high energy density and safety, latter being related to the mechanical properties of the materials. For example the micro-battery, being one application of the solid state batteries, requires a thin solid electrolyte, which renders especially ...

ANISOTROPIC MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND HARDENING MECHANISMS IN ZRO2–Y2O3 SOLID SOLUTION CRYSTALS

open access: yesIzvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii. Materialy Elektronnoi Tekhniki = Materials of Electronics Engineering, 2017
The anisotropy of the mechanical properties of crystalline ZrO2 – 2.8 mol.% Y2O3 solid solutions has been studied. The crystals have been grown by skull melting technique. The microhardness and fracture toughness for different crystallographic planes have been tested by indentation with different indenter diagonal orientations.

Approximation of the Generalized Lame Equations by the Strain Energy Functional [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematical, Engineering and Management Sciences
This paper considers a linear system of partial differential equations (PDEs) to describe the stress-strain state of a two-phase body under static load, such as water-saturated soil.

Influence of Clays on Borehole Stability : a Literature Survey Part One: Occurence of Drilling Problems. Physico-Chemical Description of Clays and of Their Interaction with Fluids Influence des argiles sur la stabilité des parois de puits : revue bibliographique. Première partie : les problèmes rencontrés lors du forage dans les argiles. Description physico-chimique des argiles et de leur interaction avec les fluides

open access: yesOil & Gas Science and Technology, 2006
This survey of literature was undertaken by ARTEP- the French Research Association for Oil Exploration and Production Techniques- at the beginning of STAR (=STabilité des ARgiles), a project on the influence of clays on borehole stability.
