The Flail Limb Syndrome

open access: yesMuscle &Nerve, Volume 74, Issue 2, Page 281-292, August 2026.
ABSTRACT The flail limb syndrome is primarily a lower motor neuron disorder that initially affects proximal arm muscles (flail arm syndrome—FAS) or distal leg muscles (flail leg syndrome—FLS). Both were recognized early on (1886 for FAS and 1918 for FLS) as somewhat distinct from classic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Oxidized low-density lipoprotein and ankle-brachial pressure index in patients with clinically evident peripheral arterial disease

open access: yesClinics, 2010
OBJECTIVES: To investigate whether oxidized low-density lipoprotein is a suitable predictor of peripheral arterial disease severity. The role of oxidized low-density lipoprotein in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis has already been investigated.

Apiotrichum‐Centered Fungal Interaction Network Disturbance Correlates With Increased Arterial Stiffness

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 8, August 2026.
Apiotrichum‐centered gut fungal network disturbance correlates with increased arterial stiffness. Five driver genera including Apiotrichum, Mycothermus, Flavocillium, Hyaloscypha, and Microscypha regulate the interaction shift. Thirty‐nine metabolites comprising organic acids, fatty acyls, and sucrose target vasoconstriction regulators CYP11B2, ROCK2 ...

The reliability of toe systolic pressure and the toe brachial index in patients with diabetes

open access: yesJournal of Foot and Ankle Research, 2010
Background The Ankle Brachial Index is a useful clinical test for establishing blood supply to the foot. However, there are limitations to this method when conducted on people with diabetes.

Prediabetes, Malignant Ventricular Hypertrophy and Stroke: The SPRINT Trial

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 8, Page 6725-6734, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims Prediabetes and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) are common risk factors in adults with hypertension. Whether their coexistence, particularly in the presence of subclinical myocardial injury or stress (malignant LVH), confers a heightened stroke risk is unknown.

The Diagnostic Accuracy of the Second Revision of the European Academy of Neurology/Peripheral Nerve Society Guideline for Diagnosing Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 33, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Diagnosing chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) relies on clinical and electrodiagnostic features. In 2021, the European Academy of Neurology/Peripheral Nerve Society (EAN/PNS) revised the CIDP guideline, superseding the 2010 European Federation of Neurological Societies (EFNS)/PNS guideline.

Ankle Brachial Index as Diagnostic Marker for Asymptomatic Peripheral Arterial Disease in Diabetes Mellitus

open access: yesPakistan Armed Forces Medical Journal
Objective: To determine ankle brachial index (ABI) as a diagnostic marker for asymptomatic peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in diabetes mellitus (DM). Study Design: Cross-sectional study.

ANKLE BRACHIAL INDEX (ABI)

open access: yes, 2013
ABI is a form of physiological measurement that provides valuable information about the functional status of peripheral arteries and predicts the risk of cardiovascular disease. It works by calculating ratio of systolic blood pressure of one of the arteries of ankle and that of brachial artery in the arm.

Neuromuscular Electrostimulation and Microvascular Perfusion in Chronic Lower‐Limb Ulcers: A Systematic Review

open access: yesInternational Wound Journal, Volume 23, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Impaired microcirculation contributes to delayed healing in venous, arterial, diabetic and mixed‐aetiology ulcers. Activation of the leg muscle pump by intermittent neuromuscular electrostimulation of the common peroneal nerve has been proposed to improve microvascular perfusion.

Transforming Inpatient Venous Leg Ulcer Management Through Early Specialist Tissue Viability Intervention

open access: yesInternational Wound Journal, Volume 23, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Inpatient care for venous leg ulcers is often inconsistent, with delays in vascular assessment and compression therapy contributing to prolonged healing and fragmented treatment. This evaluation examined a front‐door Tissue Viability Nurse‐led service providing specialist assessment at hospital admission.
