Ankle joint biomechanics

Journal of Biomechanics, 1982
A three-dimensional analysis of the human ankle joint is presented to analyse data obtained from gait laboratory tests. The ankle was treated as consisting of two joints, the talocrural (Tc.) and the talocalcaneonavicular (Tcn.), and relevant anatomical dimensions were based upon cadaveric anthropometric data.

Ankle Joint Distraction

Foot and Ankle Clinics, 2005
Ankle joint distraction is a viable alternative to ankle arthrodesis or ankle replacement. A congruent, painful, mobile, and arthritic ankle joint that is treated with this technique can achieve good to excellent results. Attention to the principles (anterior osteophyte resection, equinus contracture release, and ankle joint realignment procedures) is ...

Ankle joint biomechanics

Foot and Ankle Surgery, 1994
According to Fick, the three-dimensional patterns of foot motion are best characterized as jawlike movement. Anatomically and biomechanically, this process represents conjoined, synchronous motion within the three mobile segments of the ankle-foot unit: the upper ankle joint, the posterior lower ankle joint and the anterior lower ankle joint.

An Artificial Ankle Joint

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1979
Ankle fusion has been the time-honored treatment for painful debilitating conditions of the ankle due to osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It is not a uniformly successful operation and has a high complication rate. If there is pre-existing disease in the knee or midtarsal joints, the pain is frequently made worse by ankle fusion. If there is no

Total Ankle Joint Replacement

Archives of Surgery, 1977
The ankle is an inherently stable, kinematically simple joint that bears tremendous compression forces with relative ease because of a large load-bearing surface area. Disabling disease of the ankle is less common than at the hip or knee joints, but is not rare. Ankle arthrodesis seems less than ideal as a technique of surgical treatment.

Total ankle joint replacement

Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin, 2016
Ankle arthritis results in a stiff and painful ankle and can be a major cause of disability.1 For people with end-stage ankle arthritis, arthrodesis (ankle fusion) is effective at reducing pain in the shorter term, but results in a fixed joint, and over time the loss of mobility places stress on other joints in the foot that may lead to arthritis, pain
