Does the acceptable noise level (ANL) predict hearing-aid use?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Audiology, 2014
Objective: It has been suggested that individuals have an inherent acceptance of noise in the presence of speech, and that different acceptance of noise results in different hearing-aid (HA) use.

The ANL: Does it, or does it not?

International Journal of Audiology, 2013
About twenty years ago, an intriguing idea regarding the ability to predict successful hearing-aid usage was suggested, based on identifying the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at which individuals sto...

The Effect of Audiovisual and Binaural Listening on the Acceptable Noise Level (ANL): Establishing an ANL Conceptual Model

Journal of the American Academy of Audiology, 2014
Background:Little is known regarding the acoustic features of a stimulus used by listeners to determine the acceptable noise level (ANL). Features suggested by previous research include speech intelligibility (noise is unacceptable when it degrades speech intelligibility to a certain degree; the intelligibility hypothesis) and loudness (noise is ...

Polarized target at ANL

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1976
One of the two polarized targets operating at the ZGS in conjunction with the polarized proton beam, the PPT-III, can have S-or L-type geometry, that is, with P in the scattering plane, by the addition of a so-called ''R and A'' magnet. Together with the Spin Solenoid, which converts an N-type polarized proton beam to S-type, this allows probes of ...

Colleges organize at ANL

Physics Today, 1966
Nineteen liberal-arts colleges in and near Chicago have formed the “Associated Colleges of the Chicago Area” for cooperating in science education activities at Argonne National Laboratory. The chairman of ACCA, Mark Trumbo (dean, Aurora College”, said: “The primary interest of ACCA is in improving undergraduate education in science and mathematics by ...

ANL superconducting magnets

Physics Today, 1965
A large-bore superconducting magnet system developed at Argonne National Laboratory has sustained a field of 67 000 gauss at the center of its innermost coil. An outcome of a two-year study of the properties of superconducting coils and wires at Argonne, the new system consists of three concentric coils, 18 inches, 11 inches, and 7 inches, respectively,

Performance of the ANL Dynamitron Tandem

IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 1971
The Dynamitron Tandem Accelerator is now fully operational at ANL. Measurements of beam performance are reported. The dc proton beam current obtained at 8.0 MeV was 53 ?A. Peak pulsed proton and deuteron currents measured with a fast Faraday cup were 110.0 ?A at 1.3 nsec FWHM and 700 ?A at 2.0 nsec FWHM, respectively.
