Central nervous system Aspergillus quadrilineatus infection in a COVID‐19 patient, a case report and literature review

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 37, Issue 19-20, October 2023., 2023
The first COVID‐19‐associated cerebral aspergillosis was due to Aspergillus quadrilineatus in a pediatric patient with acute lymphocytic leukemia. A combination of intravenous liposomal amphotericin B and caspofungin therapy for 8 days, did not improve the patient's condition. The patient gradually continued to deteriorate and expired.

Metabolic syndrome as a late effect of childhood hematopoietic stem cell transplantation – A thorough statistical evaluation of putative risk factors

open access: yesPediatric Transplantation, Volume 27, Issue 4, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is frequent among survivors of childhood hematopoietic stem‐cell transplantation (HSCT), but assessment of risk factors is challenged by survivor and participation bias in long‐term follow‐up studies. Methods A cohort of 395 pediatric patients transplanted between 1980 and 2018 was investigated.

Increased survival disparities among children and adolescents & young adults with acute myeloid leukemia: A Dutch population‐based study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 150, Issue 7, Page 1101-1112, April 1, 2022., 2022
What's new? For many cancers, children under 18 have better survival outcomes than adolescents and young adults, age 18‐39. Here, the authors evaluated long‐term survival of young people diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in the Netherlands. When they compared outcomes, they found that adolescents and young adults had a worse prognosis than children.

Hematologic malignancy in tanker crewmembers: A case‐referent study among male Swedish seafarers

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, Volume 63, Issue 8, Page 685-692, August 2020., 2020
Abstract Background Work on Swedish petroleum tankers before the late 1980s has been associated with an increased risk of hematologic malignancy (HM). Since then, ship modernizations have decreased occupational exposure to gases, including the carcinogen benzene. We explored the risk of HMs in Swedish seafarers who had worked on newer types of tankers.

Causes of early death and treatment‐related death in newly diagnosed pediatric acute myeloid leukemia: Recent experiences of the Dutch Childhood Oncology Group

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, Volume 67, Issue 4, April 2020., 2020
Abstract Background With the current more effective treatment regimens for pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (AML), research on early death (ED), treatment‐related mortality (TRM), and toxicity becomes increasingly important. The aim of this study was to give an overview of the frequency, clinical features, and risk factors associated with ED and TRM in

Elevation of gangliosides in four brain regions from Parkinson’s disease patients with a GBA mutation

open access: yesnpj Parkinson's Disease, 2022
A number of genetic risk factors have been identified over the past decade for Parkinson’s Disease (PD), with variants in GBA prominent among them. GBA encodes the lysosomal enzyme that degrades the glycosphingolipid, glucosylceramide (GlcCer), with the ...
