LC‐MS/MS Identification of a Bromelain Peptide Biomarker from Ananas comosus Merr

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Bromelain (Br) is a cysteine peptidase (GenBank AEH26024.1) from pineapple, with over 40 years of clinical use. The constituents mediating its anti‐inflammatory activity are not thoroughly characterized and no peptide biomarker exists. Our objective is to characterize Br raw material and identify peptides in the plasma of Br treated mice.

Bayesian Analysis of a Lipid‐Based Physiologically Based Toxicokinetic Model for a Mixture of PCBs in Rats

open access: yesJournal of Toxicology, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
A lipid‐based physiologically based toxicokinetic (PBTK) model has been developed for a mixture of six polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in rats. The aim of this study was to apply population Bayesian analysis to a lipid PBTK model, while incorporating an internal exposure‐response model linking enzyme induction and metabolic rate.

Characterization of Plasminogen Binding to NB4 Promyelocytic Cells Using Monoclonal Antibodies against Receptor‐Induced Binding Sites in Cell‐Bound Plasminogen

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
The NB4 promyelocytic cell line exhibits many of the characteristics of acute promyelocytic leukemia blast cells, including the translocation (15 : 17) that fuses the PML gene on chromosome 15 to the RARα gene on chromosome 17. These cells have a very high fibrinolytic capacity.

Opiate Modulation of Gastrointestinal Motility and the Actions of Trimebutine

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Volume 5, Issue 5, Page 185-193, 1991., 1991
Trimebutine is an opiate ligand that interacts with the μ, σ and κ receptor subclasses with approximately equal affinity. Since opiate receptors are widely distributed in the gut, and because opiate receptor subtypes may be involved in excitatory or inhibitory control mechanisms, trimebutine has an unusual profile of action that cannot be predicted on ...

Barriers, facilitators, and other factors associated with health behaviors in childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer survivors: A systematic review

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 13, Issue 12, June 2024.
Abstract Background Healthy behaviors are paramount in preventing long‐term adverse health outcomes in childhood, adolescent, and young adult (CAYA) cancer survivors. We systematically reviewed and synthesized existing literature on barriers, facilitators, and other factors associated with health behaviors in this population.

Overview of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Pathogenesis

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Volume 4, Issue 7, Page 309-316, 1990., 1990
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) represents a difficult and challenging condition for patients, clinicians and basic investigators alike. Its etiology and pathogenesis are still unclear in spite of extensive investigations that have yielded a wealth of clinical.

Superiority of anthracycline‐free treatment in standard‐risk acute promyelocytic leukemia: A systematic review and comparative epidemiological analysis

open access: yesCancer Reports, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2024.
Abstract Background Recent advances in the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APML) have seen unprecedented improvements in patient outcomes. However, such rapid growth in understanding often leads to uncertainty regarding superiority among candidate treatment regimens, especially when further scrutinized from an epidemiological perspective ...

Identification of T cell stimulatory epitopes from the 18 kDa protein of Mycobacterium leprae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We have used different mouse strains to examine in vivo and in vitro responses to the 18 kDa protein of Mycobacterium leprae, which appears to be strongly immunogenic in both mice and humans.
