Annual Catch of Bowhead Whales by Eskimos at Point Barrow, Alaska, 1928-1960

The number of bowhead whales ( Balaena mysticetus ) taken at Barrow, Alaska, each year from 1928 to 1960 averages 5.8 whales per year. The lengths and dates of capture are given for most of the whales taken in the spring seasons since 1954. Most (72%) of the whales were taken in mid-May.

Suitable long term species-specific catch rate and biological data are seldom available for large shark species, particularly where historical commercial logbook reporting has been poor. However, shark control programs can provide suitable data from gear that consistently fishes nearshore waters all year round.

This study presents how to change the target fish during 2014 and 2015 in a swordfish fishing vessel in Fethiye region. The swordfish fishing fleet decreases year by year in the area and the vessels skip to other small-scale fisheries such as gillnetting, demersal longlining, rod and reeling, etc.
