Methodology for the Calculation of Annualized Incremental Risks in Systems of Dams
Risk Analysis, 2010In the past few years, the field of dam safety has approached risk informed methodologies throughout the world and several methodologies and programs are appearing to aid in the systematization of the calculations. The most common way of implementing these calculations is through the use of event trees, computing event probabilities, and incremental ...

Patterns of Annual Xylem Increment Integrated by Contour Presentation
Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 1973A functional method of bringing together the patterns in the annual increment of wood in the stem and root of a tree is presented and related to the analyses of Duff and Nolan. Alternative terms for the three growth analysis sequences of these authors are suggested.

Vertical Distribution of Annual Increment in Thinned Ponderosa Pine
Forest Science, 1963Abstract Changes in the pattern of radial growth of young Pinus ponderosa in the Black Hills of South Dakota were as predicted by the Schwendener-Metzger theory of bole development. Before thinning, the annual layers were widest at about 80 to 85 percent of tree height and narrowest at 20 to25 percent of tree height.

Annual Periodicity of Incremental Growth in the Moss Polytrichum commune
The Bryologist, 1975In the temperate moss species Polytrichum commune Hedw. field studies demonstrated that growth segments which are formed by changing patterns of leaf morphology are repeated annually. Evidence for exceedingly smallscale microhabitat variability in available water was found in the scattered distribution of desiccated stems in space and time, throughout ...

Stem annual increments as ecobiological indicators in Turkey oak (Quercus cerris L.)
Trees, 1995In recent decades, the biostatistical analysis of relationships among tree growth and macroclimatic factors has developed remarkably. In this discipline, the parametrisation of tree growth is generally based on the records of annual ring widths measured on breast height transverse sections of tree stems (ARI).

Effect of ecological factors on intra-annual stem girth increment of holm oak
Trees, 2014The intra-annual stem girth increment of Quercus ilex is mainly driven by water availability and secondly by temperature. Tree size and competition modulate the growth response to climate. Holm oak (Quercus ilex ssp.

Annual Growth Increments in Shells of Spisula solidissima Record Marine Temperature Variability
Science, 1981Systematic variations in annual growth increments, formed over a 16-year period in shells of the marine bivalve mollusc Spisula solidissima , reveal more growth in some years than others. Favorable years are indicated by larger than expected annual growth increments and successful recruitment of juveniles ...

Marking Time with Bivalve Shells: Oxygen Isotopes and Season of Annual Increment Formation
PALAIOS, 1996Most bivalve shells contain macroscopic growth-increment patterns which form with an annual periodicity. These are best observed in radial shell cross-sections and consist of alternating dark (translucent in transmitted light) and light (opaque in transmitted light) increments.

Age estimation for young bowhead whales (Balaena mysticetus) using annual baleen growth increments
Canadian Journal of Zoology, 2008We compiled age estimates and baleen plate δ13C data from 86 bowhead whales ( Balaena mysticetus L., 1758). We used previous whale age estimates based on aspartic acid racemization (AAR) and corpora counts to extend the use of δ13C data for age determination from cycle counting to a modified exponential model using annual baleen growth increments.
