Tree ring segmentation using UNEt TRansformer neural network on stained microsections for quantitative wood anatomy

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Forests are critical in the terrestrial carbon cycle, and the knowledge of their response to ongoing climate change will be crucial for determining future carbon fluxes and climate trajectories.

Relationship Between Wood Specific Gravity and Average Annual Ring Width of 15 Korean Wood Species

open access: yesBioResources
The correlation between specific gravity and average annual ring width was studied for 15 major Korean tree species. In coniferous trees, species with narrower rings exhibited higher specific gravity, with strong correlations observed in Pinus densiflora

Detection of annual rings in wood

open access: yes, 2008
This report describes an annual line detection algorithm for the WoodEye quality control system. The goal with the algorithm is to find the positions of annual lines on the four surfaces of a board. The purpose is to use this result to find the inner annual ring structure of the board.
