Climatic response of annual tree-rings
SPIE Proceedings, 2014Extensive literature devoted to investigations into the influence of environmental conditions on the plant respiration and respiration rate. It is generally accepted that the respired CO2 generated in a stem completely diffuses into the atmosphere. Results obtained from explorations into the CO2 content in disc tree rings by the method proposed in this

Photoacoustic analysis of CO2 content in annual tree rings
Journal of Applied Spectroscopy, 2009We have used laser photoacoustic gas analysis to study the CO2 content sorbed by the capillary porous system of annual rings in cross-sectional disks of some conifers. The measurement results showed that in most cases, the CO2 content in gas samples extracted by the vacuum method from annual rings in the disks is higher than the CO2 content in ...

Uranium mobility across annual growth rings in three deciduous tree species
Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2018Black walnut (Juglans nigra), slippery elm (Ulmus rubra), and white ash (Fraxinus americana) trees were evaluated as potential archives of past uranium (U) contamination. Like other metals, U mobility in annual growth rings of trees is dependent on the tree species.

Computed tomography for measuring annual rings of a live tree
Proceedings of the IEEE, 1983A portable X-ray computed-tomography (CT) scanner has been developed for the nondestructive measurement of cross sections of live trees, wooden utility poles, wooden building columns, wooden statues, etc., in the field environment. Temporal resolution of CT reconstruction is good enough for observing details of annual rings of trees.

The variations in annual rings of trees. Some methodical problems
Geologiska Föreningen i Stockholm Förhandlingar, 1975Abstract Some questions concerning the measurements of annual rings of trees, and the relation between ring width, ring radius, and ring index, are discussed. The results include a simple method for finding the equation of the age trend of rings. The discussion is applied to Swedish pines, spruces, and oaks. The material includes some twin pines.

Bomb radiocarbon in annual tree rings from Thailand and Australia
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2000We have examined the atmospheric 14C excess in the tropics and the southern hemisphere temperate region in the bomb pulse period, using two sets of cross-dated tree rings. One set was from a medium-sized three-leaf pine (Pinus kesiya) grown in northwestern Thailand and the other was from a Huon pine (Lagarostrobos franklinii) grown in northwestern ...

INTRA-ANNUAL DENSITY FLUCTUATIONS IN TREE RINGS: HOW, WHEN, WHERE, AND WHY?
IAWA Journal, 2016Intra-annual density fluctuations (IADFs) in tree rings are generally considered structural anomalies caused by deviations from the “normal course” of xylogenesis during the growing season. This definition is based on the bias that, under “normal conditions”, cambial activity stops once a year.
