Turbulent domain stabilization in annular flows

Physical Review E, 1994
We point out a mechanism for stabilizing expanding turbulent domains in annular flows. This nonlocal mechanism is explained within the context of a Ginzburg-Landau equation for a real amplitude. The expression for the nonlocal term can be derived by analogy with existing calculations in Taylor-Couette flow for Taylor vortices.

Magnetohydrodynamic pipe flow in annular-like domains

European Journal of Computational Mechanics, 2017
The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) pipe flow in annular-like domains with electrically conducting walls is investigated using both the extended-domain-eigenfunction method (EDEM) and the boundary elemen...

Bistable bubble domains in annular plates

Physica Status Solidi (a), 1977
An annular platelet containing a single concentric bubble domain is investigated. For certain material and geometrical parameters two different stable radii of the bubble wall for one bias field are possible (bistable bubble domain). The static properties of such a bubble are discussed and its potential application in a bubble random access memory ...

Eddy Formation in an Eccentric Annular Domain

The Physics of Fluids, 1965
The slow motion of a viscous incompressible fluid in the space bounded by two long parallel non-concentric circular cylindrical solid surfaces is studied. The outer one is stationary while the inner one rotates steadily. Both analysis and experiment show that when the ratio of eccentricity to average gap width is sufficiently large an eddy is formed ...
