An annulus vacuum sign at the anterosuperior or anteroinferior margin of a cervical interspace in extension may be due to an acute hyperextension injury with tearing of Sharpey fibers allowing the annulus fibrosus to separate from the adjacent bone. The sign is not pathognomonic of this injury as has been implied in the literature.

Movement of the aortic annulus
The British Journal of Radiology, 1969Movement of the human aortic annulus is recorded and described in ten aortic root cine-angiograms in the lateral or left anterior oblique projections. Diametrically opposed points at valve cusp attachments were plotted through a complete cardiac cycle. The mechanism of annular movement is discussed.

Schwarz--Christoffel Mapping of the Annulus
SIAM Review, 2001Summary: A new derivation of the Schwarz-Christoffel (S-C) transformation for doubly connected domains is given. The work is based on constructing the pre-Schwarzian by reflection of singularities. A derivation of the simply connected S-C map without appeal to Liouville's theorem is a byproduct of this work.
