Stellar Variability and Distance Indicators in the Near-infrared in Nearby Galaxies. I. RR Lyrae and Anomalous Cepheids in Draco Dwarf Spheroidal

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
The Draco Dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxy is one of the nearest and the most dark-matter-dominated satellites of the Milky Way. We obtained multiepoch near-infrared (NIR, JHK _s ) observations of the central region of Draco dSph covering a sky area of ∼21′

The OGLE Collection of Variable Stars. Type II Cepheids in the Magellanic System

open access: yes, 2018
We present a nearly complete collection of type II Cepheids in the Magellanic System. The sample consists of 338 objects: 285 and 53 variables in the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, respectively.

Comparison of balloon catheter and oral misoprostol for cervical ripening in women with pre‐labor rupture of membranes: A Finnish randomized controlled trial

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, Volume 104, Issue 2, Page 400-407, February 2025.
Our findings indicate a trend towards higher rates of chorioamnionitis and neonatal infections with balloon catheter use compared to oral misoprostol use for induction of labor following pre‐labor rupture of membranes, though statistical significance was not reached.

Kinematical Conformal Cosmology: Fundamental Parameters from Astrophysical Observations

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2011, Issue 1, 2011., 2011
We continue the presentation of an alternative cosmology based on conformal gravity, following our kinematical approach to the subject introduced in a recent paper. In line with the assumptions of our model, which proposes a closed‐form expression for the cosmic scale factor R(t), we revise the Hubble and deceleration parameters and introduce modified ...

Stellar Variability and Distance Indicators in the Near-infrared in Nearby Galaxies. II. Pulsating Stars in the Carina Dwarf Spheroidal

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We present homogeneous, near-infrared ( JHK _s bands) time-series observations of the classical Carina dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxy to determine accurate and precise distances using the pulsating stars as standard candles.

Variable Star Candidates in an ACS Field of M31

open access: yes, 2005
A search for variable stars is performed using two epochs of Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) imaging data for a 9.28 square arcminute portion of M31.

Revolutionary Point‐of‐Care Wearable Diagnostics for Early Disease Detection and Biomarker Discovery through Intelligent Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 11, Issue 36, September 25, 2024.
Point‐of‐care systems, particularly in their wearable format, play a pivotal role in transforming the diagnostics and healthcare realm. Integration of these high‐tech platforms with intelligent systems, such as artificial intelligence (AI), is a promising path for revolutionizing early disease detection, in vitro bioassays, medical image/data analysis,

Concluding Henrietta Leavitt's Work on Classical Cepheids in the Magellanic System and Other Updates of the OGLE Collection of Variable Stars

open access: yes, 2017
More than a century ago, Henrietta Leavitt discovered the first Cepheids in the Magellanic Clouds together with the famous period-luminosity relationship revealed by these stars, which soon after revolutionized our view of the Universe.

Dynamics of endemic human coronavirus and SARS‐CoV‐2 in a hospital of Madrid, Spain. Retrospective study from June 2020 to July 2023

open access: yesAPMIS, Volume 132, Issue 9, Page 657-662, September 2024.
An observational and retrospective study was carried out to analyse HCoV positivity from a multiplex PCR respiratory panel and RT‐PCR for SARS‐CoV‐2 in respiratory samples from 1 June 2020 to 31 July 2023 at the Príncipe de Asturias University Hospital (HUPA) in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain.

Is Crater II Disrupting?

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
Crater II (CraII) is a very intriguing low surface brightness and extended galaxy in the vicinity of our Galaxy. Motivated by its huge area and the number of RR Lyrae stars (RRLSs) detected near to its core, we performed a follow-up campaign to get deep ...
