Protection of Metals, 2001
The peculiarities of the corrosion damage to cathodically polarized aluminum in aqueous solutions of different composition are discussed. A mathematical model, semiquantitatively describing and explaining the main regularities of the phenomenon under study, is worked out and analyzed.

Plausible mechanisms are discussed for explaining the sudden burst of energy released from 0.85 M Epsom (MgSO4·7H2O) aqueous solution following sodium metal dissolution which led to the vaporization of the entire system including the glass beaker. Exothermic reactions lead to micro/nano-metastable crystal formation due to steam cavitation.
