Plausible mechanisms are discussed for explaining the sudden burst of energy released from 0.85 M Epsom (MgSO4·7H2O) aqueous solution following sodium metal dissolution which led to the vaporization of the entire system including the glass beaker. Exothermic reactions lead to micro/nano-metastable crystal formation due to steam cavitation.
