Anomalous Viscous Loss in Emulsions

Physical Review Letters, 1996
We propose a model for concentrated emulsions based on the speculation that a macroscopic shear strain does not produce an affine deformation in the randomly close-packed droplet structure. The model yields an anomalous contribution to the complex dynamic shear modulus that varies as the square root of frequency.

Anomalous Propagation Loss in Photonic Crystal Waveguides

Physical Review Letters, 2004
Propagation loss can occur in photonic crystal waveguides without complete optical confinement. We employ a highly efficient transfer-matrix method which allows for accurate and reliable extraction of the propagation loss even at an extremely low level.

Anomalous electron thermal losses in Tokamaks

Physics Letters A, 1971
Abstract Anomalous electron heat transport in Tokamaks is investigated by computer simulation considering neoclassical and empirical models. The results from a modification of an empirical model given by Artsimovich are most consistent with experimental data.

Anomalous Iron Loss Observed In A Parametric Induction Motor

[1993] Digests of International Magnetics Conference, 1993
An experimental study of the distribution and causes of the iron loss occurring in a parametric induction motor is described, with a view to further improving the characteristics of a motor and establishing the design method of the motor. It is clarified that a greater part of the iron loss in the motor occurs in the common magnetic circuit, and is ...

Anomalous Loss at a Ferrite Boundary

IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 1972
The occurrence of anomalous loss and its explanation in terms of surface waves is discussed. For this type of explanation to be possible the region of occurrence of the surface wave must at least straddle the region of anomalous loss. It is shown that this is so, particularly for the case when there is a mixed air-ferrite surface layer for which this ...

Anomalous Dispersion and Dielectric Loss in Polar Polymers

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1941
A theory of dielectric loss of polar polymers at high dilution in a nonpolar plasticizer is developed. The theory leads to a broad distribution in relaxation times, associated with the internal rotatory Brownian motion of the hydrocarbon chain. An approximate relation between the degree of polymerization, the frequency of maximum loss, and the ...

Assessing anomalous losses with dynamic hysteresis models

International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 2010
A new approach to face the problem of dynamic hysteresis and assess extra-losses in soft magnetic materials is investigated. Thanks to a spatial averaging technique and a variational principle, a dedicated formulation is derived. It takes into account microscopic magnetization mechanisms and domain wall motion-induced Joule losses.

Anomalous loss in depressed-cladding and W-fibres

Optical and Quantum Electronics, 1993
Anomolous spikes in the loss spectrum of practical depressed-cladding fibres with a finite cladding and absorbing jacket can be explained in terms of a combination of three effects — the excitation conditions, the absorption behaviour of core and cladding modes, and the slight variation in the fibre diameter along its length.

Anomalous loss of condensation nuclei in rubber tubing

Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1953
Abstract A large non-diffusion loss of condensation nuclei from air drawn through rubber tubing is investigated. The loss is found to be mainly a loss of charged nuclei and appears to be associated with charges produced in the rubber by bending. A summary of a number of important diffusion formulae, one hitherto unpublished, is included.
