Survivorship Of Anopheles gambiae In Relation To Malaria Transmission In Ilorin, Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
For the first time in Africa, an entomological study went beyond the conventional practice of determining parity and survival rates of field-collected adult anopheline mosquitoes but also related these variables to duration of Plasmodium sporogony and ...

Consistently high estimates for the proportion of human exposure to malaria vector populations occurring indoors in rural Africa. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUND: Insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS) are highly effective tools for controlling malaria transmission in Africa because the most important vectors, from the Anopheles gambiae complex and the A.

Anopheles metabolic proteins in malaria transmission, prevention and control: a review

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2020
The increasing resistance to currently available insecticides in the malaria vector, Anopheles mosquitoes, hampers their use as an effective vector control strategy for the prevention of malaria transmission. Therefore, there is need for new insecticides

Bed bug preferences for host odor or aggregation odor are differentially modulated by physiological state in various odorscapes

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The bed bug olfactory system is highly tuned to two odor sources with dedicated odor information‐processing pathways that are modulated by the satiety–hunger state. Understanding the dynamic nature of switching odor preferences at different phases of blood digestion will contribute to the development of lures with host kairomones and aggregation ...

Impact of full coverage of population with Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) on malaria vector density in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, India

open access: yesJournal of Vector Borne Diseases
Background & objectives: Long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) are a major weapon in the fight against malaria. But protection of each family member is not possible with current distribution system with 80% coverage.

Variation in the susceptibility of Anopheles gambiae to botanicals across a metropolitan region of Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Pesticide resistance is normally associated with genetic changes, resulting in varied responses to insecticides between different populations. There is little evidence of resistance to plant allelochemicals; it is likely that their efficacy varies ...

A natural barrier: tick‐repellent potential of a spruce‐derived volatile blend against Hyalomma excavatum and Ixodes ricinus

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Both active and passive questing ticks, Hyalomma excavatum and Ixodes ricinus, were assessed for behavioural responses to two novel plant‐derived repellent volatile organic compound blends. Both tick species were repelled by the products, and both novo blends were significantly more repellent than currently available commercial products.

Investigating the potential sibling species status of Anopheles fluviatilis in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, India

open access: yesJournal of Vector Borne Diseases
Background & objectives: India has made significant progress in combating malaria and reducing malaria-related mortality and morbidity. Yet, local transmission and malaria hotspots are important hurdles as India looks to achieve malaria elimination by ...
