Amphibian Strategies Against Attacks by Flies: Host‐Specificity and Threats

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
Species interactions between Diptera flies and amphibians play a significant role in tropical ecosystems, but their ecology and evolution remain understudied. This review explores the costs flies impose on amphibians, such as pathogen transmission and disruption of communication systems, and highlights the evolutionary strategies employed by both ...

Understanding preferences for nature's contributions to people between and within social actors sheds insights for inclusive conservation

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 1, Page 65-80, January 2026.
Abstract Despite calls for wider inclusion of diverse actors in conservation management, researchers tend to lump actors together into one group, potentially overlooking heterogeneity within the groups themselves—in turn, hampering inclusiveness. The risk of stereotyping social actors and oversimplifying their differentiated preferences for Nature's ...

Functional synergy and genomic linkage of glyphosate resistance traits in Canada fleabane

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 1, Page 305-318, January 2026.
Stacking target‐site and non‐target‐site glyphosate resistance mechanisms in Conyza canadensis results in strong synergistic effects. This study quantifies gene × gene interactions and maps linked resistance loci, advancing our understanding of herbicide resistance genetics and informing management strategies.

Development of an eco‐friendly RNAi yeast attractive targeted sugar bait that silences the shaker gene in spotted‐wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 1, Page 732-741, January 2026.
This study discusses a promising new attractive targeted sugar bait (ATSB) technology using yeast that expresses shRNA targeting essential genes in the fruit pest spotted‐wing drosophila (SWD). The yeast, which is delivered using soda as a sugar bait, could one day be an effective component in integrated SWD control programs.

Intra-population plasticity of Anopheles darlingi's (Diptera, Culicidae) biting activity patterns in the state of Amapá, Brazil

open access: yesRevista de Saúde Pública
OBJECTIVE: To assess the variation in Anopheles darlingi's biting activity compared to An. marajoara in the same locality and to biting activity data from other regions. METHODS: Using human bait, eight observations of the biting activity of An. darlingi

A Machine Learning‐Based Dynamic SST Index for Long‐Lead Malaria Prediction in the Peruvian Amazon

open access: yesGeoHealth, Volume 10, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Malaria imposes a major health burden in the Peruvian Amazon, and its early warning is essential for effective disease prevention. The tropical sea surface temperature (SST) variability, fundamentally shaping the global weather patterns, may also alter malaria transmission and potentially improve its long‐lead predictability. In this study, we
