[The Anopheles gambiae complex in Guinea Bissau].

Parassitologia, 1985
Three species of the Anopheles gambiae complex were identified in Guinea Bissau (West Africa) by chromosomal analysis. They were An. melas, An. arabiensis and An. gambiae s.s. An melas was observed in coastal and insular zones of the study area as well as in areas where the rivers are tidal and brackish and bordered by mangroves.

Distribution and Chromosomal Characterization of the Anopheles gambiae Complex in Angola

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2008
Mosquitoes of the Anopheles gambiae complex (N = 1,336) were sampled (2001–2005) across Angola to identify taxa, study inversion polymorphisms, and detect the circumsporozoite protein of Plasmodium falciparum. Anopheles gambiae s.s. was found in all sites; it was characterized as M-form in localities of the tropical dry and semi-desertic belts, whereas

Population structure, speciation, and introgression in the Anopheles gambiae complex.

Parassitologia, 1999
We review here what is known about the population structure and evolutionary dynamics of members of the Anopheles gambiae complex with emphasis on the situation in West Africa. First, the importance of the 2nd chromosome inversion polymorphism is demonstrated especially in adaptation to levels of aridity, a major environmental variable in Africa.

Ribosomal RNA Genes of the Anopheles gambiae Species Complex

1989
The Anopheles gambiae complex is a group of six sibling species of Afro-tropical anophelines. The two most widely distributed species Anopheles gambiae and An. arabiensis are among the principal vectors of malaria in Africa. An. melas, An. merus, and An. bwambae, are vectors of limited regional importance, whereas the highly zoophilic An.
