High‐resolution anorectal manometry (HR‐ARM) is expected to be better than conventional manometry. Our aim was to characterize HR‐ARM pressures in children with functional constipation (FC), with or without fecal incontinence (FI).

Pathophysiology of fecal incontinence (FI) in children with anorectal malformations (AM) is not well understood. Standard or high‐resolution anorectal manometry (ARM) does not identify radial asymmetry or localize abnormal sphincter function.

Defecography and anorectal manometry
European Journal of Radiology, 1992In a prospective study anorectal manometry was performed in 160 consecutive patients who were referred for defecography. Leakage of contrast material of standardized viscosity, the anorectal angle (ARA), anal resting pressure (Pr) and squeeze pressure (Ps) were measured and analyzed.

Background & Aims Anorectal manometry is a common test of anal tone and contractility. However, existing measures are often criticized for their poor ability to detect functional differences between individuals with presumably normal sphincter function ...

Anorectal manometry is an objective means of assessing the resistance to spontaneous defecation provided by anorectal sphincter mechanism and the sensory capabilities of the rectum to provide a feeling of imminent need to defecate. Since there is no single all-encompassing defecatory function test, the information provided by manometry works together ...

Anorectal manometry in premature infants
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1979Twenty-eight unselected premature infants were subjected to anorectal pressure studies, using an infusion manometric technique, with a view to establishing normal parameters in this age group. Satisfactory rectal and sphincter pressure readings were obtained in all but one case. In all of these there was a normal anorectal reflex.

Normal variation in anorectal manometry
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1992A study was performed to define the normal range of values for anorectal manometry. Normal volunteers were divided according to gender and parity. There were 20 males, 21 nulliparous females, and 18 multiparous females among the 59 subjects. Anorectal manometry using a radial eight-port catheter was performed during resting and squeezing maneuvers of ...

Anorectal manometry in newborns
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1995Anorectal manometry was performed in 32 neonates: 18 pre-term and 14 full-term infants, mean ages 6.1 and 7.1 days, respectively. The rectoanal inhibitory reflex (RAIR) was positive in 31 cases, and the relaxation waves produced by rectal distention were recorded along the anal canal and were directly related to the intensity of the stimulus.

Using high‐resolution anorectal manometry, we aimed to evaluate the: (a) optimal threshold to measure functional anal canal length (FACL) with intra‐ and inter‐observer variability; (b) relationship between abnormal FACL and other phenotypic findings ...

Computerized Analysis of Anorectal Manometry
1989A computer system was designed and applied to anorectal manometry that allows pressure data to be analysed in various ways. Two kinds of applications were presented. Image analysis enabled anorectal movements to be visualized as a three-dimensional image.
