Normal variation in anorectal manometry
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1992A study was performed to define the normal range of values for anorectal manometry. Normal volunteers were divided according to gender and parity. There were 20 males, 21 nulliparous females, and 18 multiparous females among the 59 subjects. Anorectal manometry using a radial eight-port catheter was performed during resting and squeezing maneuvers of ...

Anorectal manometry in premature infants
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1979Twenty-eight unselected premature infants were subjected to anorectal pressure studies, using an infusion manometric technique, with a view to establishing normal parameters in this age group. Satisfactory rectal and sphincter pressure readings were obtained in all but one case. In all of these there was a normal anorectal reflex.

A simple method of anorectal manometry
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1983Anorectal manometry is usually performed with an open-tipped tube or a closed balloon system. To overcome the well known measurement problems and errors associated with fluid-filled catheter systems and balloons, a pressure tranducer was used to perform anorectal manometry.

Anorectal Manometry: The State of the Art
Digestive Diseases, 1993This review deals first with the methodology of anorectal manometry. The methods of recording anorectal pressures with perfused catheters, sleeve catheters, water- or air-filled balloon catheters and microtransducers are presented and discussed as well as the various polygraphs used in this investigation.

Computerized Analysis of Anorectal Manometry
1989A computer system was designed and applied to anorectal manometry that allows pressure data to be analysed in various ways. Two kinds of applications were presented. Image analysis enabled anorectal movements to be visualized as a three-dimensional image.

Age and sex and anorectal manometry in incontinence
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1989Although the prevalence of fecal incontinence is greater in women compared with men and in elderly subjects compared with younger subjects, data regarding the influence of age and sex on anorectal performance in continent and incontinent patients are conflicting.

Anorectal Manometry: Techniques and Clinical Applications
Southern Medical Journal, 1993Anorectal manometry has gained wide acceptance as a helpful method to objectively assess the apparatus of defecation provided by the anorectal sphincter. The standard manometric evaluation enables measurement of resting and squeeze pressures, as well as of the length of the functional anal canal (high pressure zone [HPZ]).

Technical improvement for anorectal manometry in newborns
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1991A modification of the anorectal manometric technique has been devised to improve its accuracy in 31 low-weight newborn and premature infants. The characteristics of the probes used allowed long recording sessions without any sedation of patients. The pressure records fit well the classically accepted requisites.

Diagnosis of Hirschsprung’s Disease by Anorectal Manometry [PDF]
Anorectal manometry was performed in 48 Japanese children with Hirschsprung's disease and 61 normal children. The resting pressure of the rectum and anal canal was not significantly different between these groups of subjects. The frequency of rhythmical contractions of the anal canal of patients was significantly lower than for the normal subjects, but
