An unusual location of the ansa cervicalis

Morphologie, 2022
The ansa cervicalis (AC) is part of the cervical plexus and is formed by the ventral rami of spinal nerves C1-C3. It is usually formed by two roots that run parallel to each other and then form a loop anterior to the internal jugular vein. Herein, we report a rare case where the AC was found deep to the internal carotid artery and common carotid artery

Neurilemoma of the Ansa Cervicalis

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1987
A case of neurilemoma originating from the ansa cervicalis is presented. Available literature is reviewed, and the rarity of the tumor is discussed. It is believed that some cases of neurilemoma in which the nerve of origin was not identified may in reality have originated from the ansa cervicalis.

ANATOMY OF ANSA CERVICALIS AND ITS VARIATIONS

INDIAN JOURNAL OF APPLIED RESEARCH, 2021
BACKGROUND: The ansa cervicalis is usually used to re-innervate the larynx following recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis in thyroid cancer, oesophageal cancer following lymphadenectomy. Variations have previously been reported on the formation and branching pattern of the ansa cervicalis loop.

Ansa cervicalis — A new classification approach

Annals of Anatomy - Anatomischer Anzeiger, 2019
Normally, the inferior root of Ansa cervicalis passes around the internal jugular vein and runs in an anterior direction to meet the superior root ventral to the common carotid artery. However, anatomical variants of the Ansa cervicalis are as yet not well investigated and understood. To close this gap the present study was undertaken.

Vagocervical complex replacing an absent ansa cervicalis

Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, 1994
Absence of the ansa cervicalis was noticed in only one out of 200 cadavers, and that only on the right side, where it was replaced by the vagocervical complex. This complex was formed by the vagus nerve with the C1 and C2 components from the cervical plexus, giving off a descending branch to supply the infrahyoid muscles of the neck.
