Meltwater as a Local Source of Ice Nucleating Particles in the Central Arctic Summer
Abstract Identifying sources of ice nucleating particles (INPs) in the central Arctic is important for understanding controls on the phase of Arctic mixed‐phase clouds (AMPCs). We show meltwater samples collected from the Arctic pack ice in July 2020 contain biological INPs active at relatively warm temperatures (T ≥ −10°C).

Draft Genome Sequence of the Antarctic Psychrophilic Bacterium Pseudomonas syringae Strain Lz4W [PDF]
ABSTRACT The psychrophilic bacterium Pseudomonas syringae strain Lz4W was isolated from soil samples from Antarctica to decipher the mechanisms of low-temperature adaptation. We report here the 4.982-Mb draft genome sequence of P. syringae Lz4W.

Novel methylotrophic bacteria isolated from the River Thames (London, UK) [PDF]
Enrichment and elective culture for methylotrophs from sediment of the River Thames in central London yielded a diversity of pure cultures representing several genera of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, which were mainly of organisms not ...

KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...

Warm‐Water Regimes Influence Microbial Diversity and Ecological Functions in Subtropical Gulf
In this study, high‐throughput sequencing was employed to investigate the impact of water temperature on the composition and ecological functions of marine microbial communities in the Beibu Gulf. It was found that temperature variations significantly influenced the composition and ecological functions of these microbial communities.

The potential for photosynthesis in hydrothermal vents: a new avenue for life in the Universe?
We perform a quantitative assessment for the potential for photosynthesis in hydrothermal vents in the deep ocean. The photosynthetically active radiation in this case is from geothermal origin: the infrared thermal radiation emitted by hot water, at ...

Characterization of a Putative Antimicrobial Peptide from an Antarctic Bacterium
Abstract The search for new antibiotics is a continuous effort since its discovery. Nevertheless, the speed of discovering novels antibiotics cannot match the speed of bacteria acquiring antibiotics resistant. Hence, the search efforts have broadened to include all compounds with antimicrobial activities.
