Isolation and characterization of an acrylamide-degrading Antarctic bacterium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The presence of acrylamide in the environment poses a threat due to its well known neurotoxic, carcinogenic and teratogenic properties. Human activities in various geographical areas are the main anthropogenic source of acrylamide pollution.

A thermophilic hormone-sensitive lipase family esterase Est1404 identified from an Antarctic bacterium Pseudomonas sp. E2-15

open access: yesPolar Research
Esterases are a group of enzymes with a diverse range of uses in industry. We identified a novel hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) in the esterase family, Est1404, through cloning and expression from the Antarctic bacterium Pseudomonas sp.

Extracellular cold active lipase from the psychrotrophic Halomonas sp. BRI 8 isolated from the Antarctic sea water [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2013
An extracellular cold active lipase-producing psychrotrophic bacterium (BRI 8) was isolated from the Antarctic sea water sample. The 16s rRNA sequence study revealed that the isolate belongs to the genus Halomonas (929 bp).

Two Inducible Prophages of an Antarctic Pseudomonas sp. ANT_H14 Use the Same Capsid for Packaging Their Genomes - Characterization of a Novel Phage Helper-Satellite System.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Two novel prophages ФAH14a and ФAH14b of a psychrotolerant Antarctic bacterium Pseudomonas sp. ANT_H14 have been characterized. They were simultaneously induced with mitomycin C and packed into capsids of the same size and protein composition. The genome

Paleoproterozic Icehouses and the Evolution of Oxygen Mediating Enzymes: The Case for a Late Origin of Photosystem -- II [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Two major geological problems regarding the origin of oxygenic photosynthesis are: (1) identifying a source of oxygen predating biological oxygen production and capable of driving the evolution of oxygen tolerance, and (2) determining when oxygenic ...
