Engineered Mycelial Scaffolds With Tunable Ultraviolet Protection, Wettability, Thermal Stability, and Spatial Mechanics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Fungal mycelia grown into biodegradable scaffolds and infused with titania nanoparticles show enhanced ultraviolet shielding, thermal protection, and surface nonwettability. Properties were tuned by drying methods, revealing structure–function relationships.

Design of Optically Transparent Antenna with Directional Radiation Patterns

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2017
An optically transparent antenna with directional radiation pattern is proposed in this paper. This antenna consists of a radiation patch above the transparent glass substrate and a frequency selective surface acting as the ground of microstrip antenna ...

Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Theory of v.o.r. antenna radiation patterns

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1971
The radiation field produced by v.o.r. antennas consisting of Alford loops located above a circular conducting ground plane is investigated theoretically and experimentally. Geometrical theory of diffraction is applied to obtain the theoretical expressions for the far field produced by such an antenna.

Simple reconfigurable antenna with radiation pattern

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 2008
A radiation pattern reconfigurable antenna is proposed. By controlling the switch states, the antenna can be worked as a monopole antenna with an omnidirectional radiation pattern or a dipole antenna with reflector, which has directional radiation pattern.

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...
