Rapid and Accurate Pressure Sensing Device for Direct Measurement of Intraocular Pressure. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
PurposeIntraocular pressure (IOP) is the primary modifiable risk factor for glaucoma. Current devices measure IOP via the dynamic response of the healthy cornea and do not provide the accurate IOP measurements for patients with altered corneal ...

Modulation of constant light effects on the eye by ciliary ganglionectomy and optic nerve section [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Our previous studies have shown that an environment of constant light (CL) can lead to development of high degree of hyperopia in newborn chicks by inducing severe corneal flattening, and compensatory growth of the vitreous chamber.

Comparison of anterior chamber depth measurements using the IOLMaster, scanning peripheral anterior chamber depth analyser, and anterior segment optical coherence tomography [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Ophthalmology, 2007
To compare anterior chamber depth measurements by three non-contact devices-the IOLMaster, scanning peripheral anterior chamber depth analyser (SPAC), and Visante anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) METHODS: Prospective, cross sectional study of 497 phakic subjects over 50 years of age attending a community clinic in Singapore ...

Impact of Pre‐Oxidation Treatments on a Recycled MgO/Steel‐Composite as Carbon Free Anode in Aluminum‐Electrolysis Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...

Effect of Tiotropium on eye findings in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

open access: yesBMC Pulmonary Medicine
Background Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a persistent, chronic inflammatory disease of the lungs. Tiotropium, used in the treatment of COPD, is a muscarinic receptor antagonist that provides long-acting bronchodilation.

Effect of corneal light scatter on vision: a review of the literature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The cornea is the transparent connective tissue window at the front of the eye. The physiological role of the cornea is to conduct external light into the eye, focus it, together with the lens, onto the retina, and to provide rigidity to the entire ...

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Composites of Shellac and Silver Nanowires as Flexible, Biobased, and Corrosion‐Resistant Transparent Conductive Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Shellac, a centuries‐old natural resin, is reimagined as a green material for flexible electronics. When combined with silver nanowires, shellac films deliver transparency, conductivity, and stability against humidity. These results position shellac as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for transparent conductors in next‐generation ...

Mechanical Properties of Architected Polymer Lattice Materials: A Comparative Study of Additive Manufacturing and CAD Using FEM and µ‐CT

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how pore shape and manufacturing‐induced deviations affect the mechanical properties of 3D‐printed lattice materials with constant porosity. Combining µ‐CT analysis, FEM, and compression testing, the authors show that structural imperfections reduce stiffness and strength, while bulk material inhomogeneities probably enhance ...
