Toxic Anterior Segment Syndrome
Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 2006Toxic anterior segment syndrome (TASS) is a sterile postoperative inflammatory reaction caused by a noninfectious substance that enters the anterior segment, resulting in toxic damage to intraocular tissues. The process typically starts 12 to 48 hours after cataract/anterior segment surgery, is limited to the anterior segment of the eye, is always Gram

Anterior Segment Configuration
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1982To the Editor. —I was interested in the article entitled "Anterior Segment Configuration Correlated With Shaffer's Grading of Anterior Chamber Angle" by Chan et al in the JanuaryArchives(1981;99:104-107). These authors have measured central and peripheral corneal thickness and central and peripheral anterior chamber depth using attachments 1 and 2 ...

Anterior Segment Fluorophotometry in Acute Anterior Uveitis
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1987Anterior segment fluorophotometry was used to assess the severity of blood-aqueous barrier disruption in 25 patients with acute anterior uveitis. The results indicated that HLA-B27-positive patients had a more severe inflammation than did HLA-B27-negative patients, which was not discernible when judged by clinical signs and symptoms.

Xerophthalmia and Anterior Segment Blindness
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1976The prevalence of presumed vitamin A-related corneal scars among 5,589 preschool-age Haitian children ranged from 1.2 per 1,000 in the south, to almost 1% in the famine-afflicted north. These scars accounted for at least 45% of all corneal scars, and all bilateral corneal blindness encountered. Most lesions were acquired during the first three years of

Fibrosis in the Anterior Segments of the Eye
Endocrine‚ Metabolic & Immune Disorders-Drug Targets, 2010The anterior segment of the eye ball, i. e., cornea and conjunctiva, serves as the barrier to the external stimuli. Cornea is transparent and is a "window"of the light sense, while conjunctiva covers the sclera, the main part of the eyeshell. Fibrosis/scarring in cornea potentially impairs vision by the reduction of its transparency and the alteration ...

Advances in anterior segment imaging
Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 2007Imaging of the crystalline lens and intraocular lens is becoming increasingly more important to optimize the refractive outcome of cataract surgery, to detect and manage complications and to ascertain advanced intraocular lens performance. This review examines recent advances in anterior segment imaging. The main techniques used for imaging the anterior
