Diminution of Anterograde Amnesia Following Electroconvulsive Therapy

British Journal of Psychiatry, 1974
The memory loss that follows a series of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) treatments has been well documented. The amnesia appears to involve an impairment in the ability to acquire new memories, an impairment of memory for events that occurred shortly before ECT (Dornbush, 1972; Williams, 1966), and an impairment in the ability to recall material from ...

A Case of Anterograde Amnesia with Bilateral Hippocampus Involvement After Acute Glufosinate Ammonium Intoxication

, 2014
Glufosinate ammonium is a commercial herbicide made from a phosphinic acid derivative of glutamate, which leads to a lethal accumulation of ammonia in plants by inhibiting the activity of glutamine synthetase (1).

Hippocampal contributions to recollection in retrograde and anterograde amnesia

Hippocampus, 2006
AbstractLesions restricted to the hippocampal formation and/or extended hippocampal system (hippocampal formation, fornix, mammillary bodies, and anterior thalamic nuclei) can disrupt conscious recollection in anterograde amnesia, while leaving familiarity‐based memory relatively intact. Familiarity may be supported by extra‐hippocampal medial temporal

The contribution of the anterior thalamic nuclei to anterograde amnesia

Neuropsychologia, 1993
This paper first reviews the anatomical, pathological, and neuropsychological evidence implicating the anterior thalamic nuclei in memory processes. It is concluded that there is much indirect evidence indicating that anterior thalamic dysfunction is an important factor in anterograde amnesia.

Anterograde and Retrograde Amnesia after Lormetazepam and Flunitrazepam

1988
In a pharmacopsychological study, memory impairments after single oral doses of benzodiazepines or placebo were investigated in 40 healthy men aged 20-40 years. The study was designed as a double-blind and placebo-controlled trial. Four independent groups of 10 subjects randomly received either 1 mg lormetazepam, 2 mg lormetazepam, 2 mg flunitrazepam ...

The Relationship between Retrograde and Anterograde Amnesia in Patients with Typical Global Amnesia

Cortex, 1997
An extensive battery of tests of anterograde amnesia and remote memory was given to ten amnesics with lesions either to the medial temporal lobes of the diencephalon. These showed that the patients had anterograde amnesia with deficits in verbal and non-verbal recall and recognition, but preservation of word stem completion and intelligence.

Massive and persistent anterograde amnesia in the absence of detectable brain damage: Anterograde psychogenic amnesia or gross reduction in sustained effort?

Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology, 1997
The case of a young patient with severe and persistent anterograde amnesia of no known cause is reported. Anterograde amnesia arose within a 1-month period and has persisted for more than 1 year. Although a wide variety of neurological and neuroradiological assessments were completed (EEG, evoked potential recordings, Doppler sonography, MRI, PET), no ...

Compulsive activity and anterograde amnesia after zolpidem use

Clinical Toxicology, 2007
Zolpidem is a selective GABAAalpha1 receptor modulator used for its hypnotic-sedative properties. Zolpidem has side effects that are similar but not identical to the benzodiazepines. We report the first cases of compulsive activity combined with anterograde amnesia after the use of zolpidem.Three women experienced anterograde amnesia and compulsive ...

Chapter 7 Anterograde amnesia

2008
Publisher Summary A patient with anterograde amnesia is the one who is grossly deficient in the formation of new memories. The diversity of findings in the field of anterograde amnesias is related to the current content-based dividing of memory, the diversity of brain regions implicated in memory processing and the various time-dependent stages of ...
