Peptide signaling in anther development and pollen-stigma interactions

Gene, 2023
Polypeptides play irreplaceable roles in cell-cell communication by binding to receptor-like kinases. Various types of peptide-receptor-like kinase-mediated signaling have been identified in anther development and male-female interactions in flowering plants. Here, we provide a comprehensive summary of the biological functions and signaling pathways of

Anther-specific expression of the rolB gene of Agrobacterium rhizogenes increases IAA content in anthers and alters anther development and whole flower growth

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1992
The promoter activity of a 2.2-kb DNA fragment from the 5' flanking sequence of the tap1 gene of snapdragon has been characterised in tobacco with the β-glucuronidase reporter gene. The tap1 promoter conferred to the reporter gene an expression that was limited to the early stages of anther development.

Development of the Anther of Annona squamosa L.

Annals of Botany, 1981
In the stamen of Annona squamosa the initial hypodermal archesporium comprises a uniseriate row of cells, of which subsequently alternate cells become septal initials and sporogenous cells respectively. Morphologically the tapetum has a triple origin from the parietal cell derivatives, the connective cells and the septal initials; the tapetum derived ...

An anther development F-box (ADF) protein regulated by tapetum degeneration retardation (TDR) controls rice anther development

Planta, 2014
In this study, we reported that a F-box protein, OsADF, as one of the direct targets of TDR , plays a critical role in rice tapetum cell development and pollen formation. The tapetum, the innermost sporophytic tissue of anther, plays an important supportive role in male reproduction in flowering plants.

Development of Isolated Rudimentary Anthers from Somatic Anther Callus of Cyclamen persicumMill.

Zeitschrift für Pflanzenphysiologie, 1978
Summary Cyclamen anthers, when excised and cultured in vitro in the presence of IAA and BA, show callus formation from somatic tissues and, to a certain extent, subsequent reorganization of the callus. High IAA/BA concentration ratios may cause root formation, whereas low ratios favour the development of isolated organs possessing characteristics of ...

Regulation of the Arabidopsis anther transcriptome by DYT1 for pollen development

The Plant Journal, 2012
SummarySeveral genes encoding transcription factors have been shown to be essential for male fertility in plants, suggesting that transcriptional regulation is a major mechanism controlling anther development in Arabidopsis. DYSFUNCTIONAL TAPETUM 1 (DYT1), a putative bHLH transcription factor, plays a critical role in regulating tapetum function and ...

Patterns of gene expression in developing anthers of Brassica napus

Plant Molecular Biology, 1991
The relationship between bud length, anther length and stage of anther development has been investigated in Brassica napus using a series of cytological markers that define steps in the process of male gametogenesis. It was determined that bud length is directly related to anther length and that anther or bud length is tightly linked to the stage of ...

Cover Caption: Rice Anther Development

Journal of Integrative Plant Biology, 2012
At the early stage of rice flower development, the lemma, palea, stamen and pistil primordia are first formed, as shown by the cover picture taken under an electron microscope. The stamen primordia further develop into mature anthers, with viable pollen inside. In this issue, Guo and Liu (pp.

Cell biology of anther and pollen development

1994
The male part of the flower consists of stamens, each with a filament and an anther. Anthers and the other parts of the flower are derived from leaves: the filament is a modified petiole and the anther the blade. Anthers differ in shape and size. Shapes range from spherical to oblong, or sometimes convoluted, as in pumpkin.
