New Superphylum “Monosporangiophyta” for grouping Marchantiophyta, Bryophyta s.str. and Anthocerotophyta

A new Superphylum “Monosporangiophyta” is proposed here to accommodate three phyla, viz. Marchantiophyta, Bryophyta s.str. and Anthocerotophyta under Kingdom Plantae. Among land plants, pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms together are included under Superphylum “Polysporangiophyta”.

Ultrastructure of a Fungal Endophyte in Phaeoceros laevis (L.) Prosk. (Anthocerotophyta)

The gametophyte of the anthocerotophyte Phaeoceros laevis is associated with an aseptate fungus that forms extracellular thick-walled hyphae, intercellular thin-walled hyphae, and intracellular arbuscules. Vesicles are formed by swelling of inter- or intracellular hyphae and are common in summer.
