The moulting arthropod: a complete genetic toolkit review

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 99, Issue 6, Page 2338-2375, December 2024.
ABSTRACT Exoskeletons are a defining character of all arthropods that provide physical support for their segmented bodies and appendages as well as protection from the environment and predation. This ubiquitous yet evolutionarily variable feature has been instrumental in facilitating the adoption of a variety of lifestyles and the exploitation of ...

5‐Aza‐adenine Derivatives for Crop‐Protection: Multicomponent Synthesis, Experimental and Theoretical Structural Analysis

open access: yesChemPlusChem, Volume 89, Issue 10, October 2024.
New purine isosteres are prepared using a convenient three‐component, catalyst‐free, microwave‐promoted reaction. The products are evaluated for potential insecticidal, fungicidal and herbicidal properties and structural features of the compounds, including interactions in a representative crystal, are explored experimentally by X‐ray crystallography ...

Analysis of Cry8Ka5-binding proteins from Anthonomus grandis (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) midgut

open access: yesJournal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2010
Biotech crops expressing Bacillus thuringiensis Cry toxins present a valuable approach for insect control. Cry8Ka5, which is highly toxic to the cotton boll weevil (Anthonomus grandis), was used as a model to study toxin-ligand interactions. Three Cry-binding proteins were detected after toxin overlay assays.

Pollination biology of Gossypium turneri: Autonomous selfing provides reproductive assurance in an endangered wild cotton from Sonora, Mexico

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, Volume 39, Issue 5, Page 260-274, September 2024.
Gossypium turneri is a wild cotton that is currently threatened by tourism development and an invasive species. Our results indicate that this species has the ability of autonomous self‐pollination by style curvature, providing reproductive assurance when pollinators are scarce. This finding is relevant as current disturbance might disrupt interactions
