A novel profluorescent dinitroxide for imaging polypropylene degradation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Free-radical processes underpin the thermo-oxidative degradation of polyolefins. Thus, to extend the lifetime of these polymers, stabilizers are generally added during processing to scavenge the free radicals formed as the polymer degrades.

Survival of Organic Materials in Hypervelocity Impacts of Ice on Sand, Ice, and Water in the Laboratory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The survival of organic molecules in shock impact events has been investigated in the laboratory. A frozen mixture of anthracene and stearic acid, solvated in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), was fired in a two-stage light gas gun at speeds of ?2 and ?4?km s?1 ...

Environmental Pollutant Anthracene Induces ABA-Dependent Transgenerational Effects on Gemmae Dormancy in Marchantia polymorpha

open access: yesPlants
Anthracene, a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) from fossil fuel combustion, poses significant environmental threats. This study investigates the role of abscisic acid (ABA) in the anthracene tolerance of the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha using ...

Assessment of genotoxicity and depuration of anthracene in the juvenile coastal fish Trachinotus carolinus using the comet assay

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Oceanography, 2013
In the environment, anthracene is characterized as being persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic to aquatic organisms. Biotransformation of xenobiotic substances, such as anthracene, produces reactive oxygen species that may induce DNA strand breaks.

Ethyl anthracene-9-carboxylate [PDF]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E Structure Reports Online, 2008
In the title compound, C(17)H(14)O(2), the COO group and the anthracene fragment form a dihedral angle of 76.00 (19)°. The torsion angle around the O-Csp(3) bond of the ester group is 108.52 (18)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by C-H⋯O inter-actions and edge-to-face arene inter-actions with C-H⋯(ring centroid) distances in the range 2.75-2.84 Å.
