Anti-amoebic activity of acyclic and cyclic-samarium complexes on Acanthamoeba [PDF]

open access: yesParasitology Research, 2018
This work investigated the anti-amoebic activity of two samarium (Sm) complexes, the acyclic complex [bis(picrato)(pentaethylene glycol)samarium(III)] picrate-referred to as [Sm(Pic)2(EO5)](Pic)-and the cyclic complex [bis(picrato)(18-crown-6)samarium(III)] picrate-referred to as [Sm(Pic)2(18C6)](Pic).

3′-Deoxyribonucleosides and their derivatives as anti-amoebic agents

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2000
In general nucleoside analogues were found to possess in vitro amoebicidal property against trophozoites of Entamoeba histolytica. The acid-labile nature of these compounds completely destroyed their ability to cure caecal amoebiasis of rats. However the therapeutic efficacy of one of these compounds yielded most promising results, with 10% cures when ...

Antibacterial, anthelmintic and anti-amoebic activity in South African medicinal plants

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2000
Hexane, ethanol and water extracts of plants used by South African traditional healers for treating stomach ailments were screened for antibacterial, anthelmintic and anti-amoebic activities. To evaluate antibacterial activity, the disc-diffusion assay was used against several Gram-positive and Gram-negative species.

Rapid in vitro test for determination of anti-amoebic activity

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1996
A rapid microplate assay for the detection of potential compounds active against Entamoeba histolytica is described. The assay is based on the metabolic reduction of a tetrazolium salt by E. histolytica trophozoites as an indicator of their viability which may be measured photometrically.

Anti-amoebic Activity of Leaf Extracts and Aporphine Alkaloids Obtained from Annona purpurea

Planta Medica, 2020
Abstract Annona purpurea has been traditionally used by indigenous and socioeconomically disadvantaged people to treat infectious and parasitic diseases, including amoebiasis. The goal of this study was to assess the effect of a crude methanolic extract, an alkaloid extract, and aporphine alkaloids from leaves of A.

Anti-amoebic activity of plant compounds from Virgilia oroboides and Chlorophora excelsa

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2001
The anti-amoebic activity of four plant extracts: maackiain and formononetin from Virgilia oroboides and chlorophorin and Iroko from Chlorophora excelsa, were evaluated. Anti-protozoal tests conducted on trophozoites of Entamoeba histolytica established that all four compounds had an affect on the trophozoites to some degree.
