Active sonar target tracking for anti-submarine warfare applications

OCEANS'10 IEEE SYDNEY, 2010
Tracking potential submarine targets using active sonar is a challenging task, due to the high level of clutter that results in a large number of false alarms. This can potentially overwhelm or critically limit the capabilities of an active sonar tracker.

Anti-submarine warfare with continuously active sonar

2011
Existing surveillance sonar systems for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) use a pulsed sonar deployed at a low duty cycle. Continuously active sonar (CAS) is of special interest since the technique could provide better detection performance than conventional pulsed sonar, and it will provide the operator a continuous track.

Anti-Submarine Warfare in the 21st Century

2004
Abstract : Since the end of the Cold War, the US Navy has reduced its Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) force structure and training dollars. Today, US ASW forces, surface, air, and submerged, have been cut significantly and/or they have assumed other missions to maintain relevance in the changing naval and conflicts of the 199Os and early 21st century.
