Using hybrid multiobjective machine learning to optimise sonobuoy placement patterns

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar &Navigation, Volume 17, Issue 3, Page 374-387, March 2023., 2023
Abstract This paper presents a new approach to finding optimal patterns for the placement of fields of sonobuoys in a complex undersea environment. We model the problem as a biobjective one, where the aim is to minimise both sensor placement time and uncertainty over target localisation.

Anti-submarine warfare : a strategy primer [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
This report reviews the naval planner's basic "menu" of operational anti-submarine warfare (ASW) strategical choices. Basic ASW strategies, discussed from a historical perspective, are: (1) destruction of the submarine (2) containment of the submarine ...

Above Water Electric Potential Signatures of Submerged Naval Vessels

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2019
In this paper, we investigate the fundamental linkage between underwater electric potential (UEP) signatures and their related electric fields above the waterline, which are introduced as above water electric potential (AEP) signatures.

Littoral combat ship open ocean anti-submarine warfare [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This capstone explored the littoral combat ship (LCS) and its potential to fulfill the anti-submarine warfare (ASW) mission for open ocean escort of high value assets. A systems engineering approach was used to develop requirements and implement modeling
