Noneluting Enzymatic Antibiofilm Coatings [PDF]

open access: yesACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2012
We developed a highly efficient, biocompatible surface coating that disperses bacterial biofilms through enzymatic cleavage of the extracellular biofilm matrix. The coating was fabricated by binding the naturally existing enzyme dispersin B (DspB) to surface-attached polymer matrices constructed via a layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition technique.

Real-Time Assessment of Staphylococcus aureus Biofilm Disruption by Phage-Derived Proteins

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
A current focus of research is the development of new tools for removing bacterial biofilms in industrial settings. Bacteriophage-encoded proteins, such as endolysins, virion-associated peptidoglycan hydrolases, and exopolysaccharide depolymerases, have ...

Investigation of the antibiofilm capacity of peptide-modified stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2018
Biofilm formation on surfaces is an important research topic in ship tribology and medical implants. In this study, dopamine and two types of synthetic peptides were designed and attached to 304 stainless steel surfaces, aiming to inhibit the formation ...

Antibiofilm Effect of Biogenic Silver Nanoparticles Combined with Oregano Derivatives against Carbapenem-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2023
Resistant bacteria may kill more people than COVID-19, so the development of new antibacterials is essential, especially against microbial biofilms that are reservoirs of resistant cells.

Complex Networks Analyses of Antibiofilm Peptides: An Emerging Tool for Next-Generation Antimicrobials’ Discovery

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2023
Microbial biofilms cause several environmental and industrial issues, even affecting human health. Although they have long represented a threat due to their resistance to antibiotics, there are currently no approved antibiofilm agents for clinical ...

Antibacterial and Antibiofilm Activities of Makaluvamine Analogs [PDF]

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2014
Streptococcus mutans is a key etiological agent in the formation of dental caries. The major virulence factor is its ability to form biofilms. Inhibition of S. mutans biofilms offers therapeutic prospects for the treatment and the prevention of dental caries.

Induction of amylase and protease as antibiofilm agents by starch, casein, and yeast extract in Arthrobacter sp. CW01

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2021
Background In unfavourable environment, such as nutrient limitation, some bacteria encased themselves into a three dimensional polymer matrix called biofilm. The majority of microbial infections in human are biofilm related, including chronic lung, wound,

Recent development of nanomedicine for the treatment of bacterial biofilm infections

open access: yesView, 2021
Bacterial biofilm related infections are ever growing issues for global medical community. Traditional antibiotic therapy is usually ineffective for treating them because the bacteria inside biofilms have evolved with multiple mechanisms to evade ...

Antiplanktonic and Antibiofilm Activity of Rheum palmatum Against Streptococcus oralis and Porphyromonas gingivalis

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2022
Periodontitis and peri-implantitis are inflammatory conditions with a high global prevalence. Oral pathogens such as Porphyromonas gingivalis play a crucial role in the development of dysbiotic biofilms associated with both diseases. The aim of our study
