Efficacy of Antibiotics in Supracondylar Fractures
Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, 2021Background: Controversy exists surrounding antibiotic use in the setting of pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures treated with closed reduction and percutaneous Kirschner wire (K-wire) fixation. While the reported incidence of infection in the literature is low, surgeons frequently administer preoperative antibiotics.

Surfaces Containing Sharp Nanostructures Enhance Antibiotic Efficacy
Nano Letters, 2022The ever-increasing rate of medical device implantations is met by a proportionately high burden of implant-associated infections. To mitigate this threat, much research has been directed toward the development of antibacterial surface modifications by various means.

Pharmacodynamic Factors of Antibiotic Efficacy
Pharmacotherapy: The Journal of Human Pharmacology and Drug Therapy, 1992The primary focus of the pharmaceutical industry in past years has been on developing more potent antibiotics rather than on establishing optimum therapy with currently available agents. Concepts that can be used to tailor patient‐ and pathogen‐specific antimicrobial regimens include concentration‐dependent killing, concentration‐independent killing ...

Efficacy of antibiotics in neurobrucellosis
European Journal of Neurology, 1995Brucellosis is a systemic infection that rarely involves the nervous system. This paper describes 21 cases of neurobrucellosis affecting different parts of the peripheral and central nervous system. The various presentations closely simulated acute meningoencephalitis, myelitis, cerebral ischaemia, radiculopathy or multisystem degeneration.

Intracameral antibiotics: Safety, efficacy, and preparation
Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 2014Endophthalmitis is a rare but potentially devastating complication of cataract surgery. This article presents an overview of endophthalmitis prophylaxis and the use of intracameral antibiotics. It highlights available intracameral antibiotics with respect to pharmacology, spectrum of activity, dosage and preparation, safety, and efficacy profiles, as ...

Efficacy of Prophylactic Antibiotics in Reduction Mammoplasty
Annals of Plastic Surgery, 1994The use of prophylactic antibiotics in reduction mammoplasty has been random and its efficacy unproven. This study reviewed 106 consecutive inferior pedicle technique reduction mammoplasties. Two groups were identified; 47 patients received prophylactic antibiotics and 59 patients did not.

Efficacy of Prophylactic Antibiotics in Arthroscopic Surgery
Orthopedics, 1997ABSTRACT A prospective, randomized, double-blind study of 437 patients undergoing arthroscopic diagnostic and operative procedures found that no deep infections occurred in any patient and only one superficial infection occurred in a patient who did not receive prophylactic antibiotics.

Efficacy of Prophylactic Antibiotics for Craniotomy
Neurosurgery, 1994A meta-analysis of published randomized studies comparing prophylactic antibiotics to placebo in craniotomies was performed. Ten studies were examined; eight met criteria for inclusion into the meta-analysis. The analysis showed an advantage of antibiotics over placebo at the P < 10-8 level.

Bacterial metabolism and antibiotic efficacy
The FASEB Journal, 2017In this talk, we will highlight recent work in network biology aimed at elucidating the mechanisms of action of antibacterials and bacterial responses to antibiotic treatment. Of note, we highlight recent work showing that antibiotics perturb the metabolic state of bacteria and that the metabolic state of bacteria impacts antibiotic We discuss how the ...
