Antibiotic Efficacy againstStaphylococcus epidermidisAdherent to Vascular Grafts
Journal of Surgical Research, 1996Antibiotic bonded grafts may improve the treatment results of vascular graft infections. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibiotic and antibiotic concentration needed to be effective against Staphylococcus epidermidis-infected vascular grafts. The efficacy of four antibiotics (minocycline, cefazolin, vancomycin, and rifampin) against S.

Efficacy of antibiotic prophylaxis against ventilator-associated pneumonia
Journal of Hospital Infection, 2019Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is one of the most important problems of intensive care units. Eighty-four neurologic patients with acute stroke (Glasgow Coma Score ≤8) were entered into a double-blind clinical trial. Patients in the intervention group received piperacillin-tazobactam 4 g/0.5 g at the time of intubation and 12 h later.

Efficacy of antibiotic prophylaxis in clean neurosurgical operations
Neurosurgery, 1989Abstract Four controlled trials and one case control study have presented data supporting the efficacy of perioperative administration of antibiotics in reducing the rate of infection following clean neurosurgical procedures. Their results are, for the most part, consistent with uncontrolled studies reported since 1980.

Efficacy of Antibiotics in Low-Velocity Gunshot Fractures
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, 1989We have investigated the efficacy of intravenous antibiotic therapy as a prophylactic measure to prevent infection following low-velocity gunshot fractures. Ninety-six consecutive patients were randomized prospectively to either an antibiotic group (Group I) or a nonantibiotic group (Group II) and were followed in a special gunshot wound clinic.

Antibiotic efficacy in odontogenic infections.
Journal of oral surgery (American Dental Association : 1965), 1975Cultures and antibiotic sensitivities were determined for 84 patients in the oral surgery clinic who had diagnoses of odontogenic infections. Data tabulated from the results of the bacteriologic cultures and antibiotic sensitivities disclosed the five organisms most frequently involved.

Assessment of antibiotic efficacy in acute bacterial meningitis
Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1979Currently, antibiotic efficacy in acute bacterial meningitis is evaluated in several stages. First, animals are used to assess antibiotic penetration into cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the absence and presence of an inflammatory stimulus. Second, concentrations of drug are correlated to in vitro killing studies.

Measuring the Therapeutic Efficacy of Antibiotics
American Association of Bovine Practitioners Conference Proceedings, 1988Every year, veterinarians and beef producers administer millions of doses of antibiotics to cattle. Yet very little work has been carried out to determine the efficacy of those treatments. It is assumed that antibiotic treatment of cattle with bacterial infections is advantageous, but given the wide variety of antibiotics available, it is surprising ...

Antibiotic therapy in cystic fibrosis. Evaluation of efficacy
Chest, 1988Eradication of the bacterial pathogen, resolution of the local and systemic inflammatory signs, and recovery of organ function are the main criteria by which antibiotic treatment is evaluated. In cystic fibrosis (CF) the pathogen is seldom eradicated and systemic markers of inflammation are not always present.

Efficacy of Preoperative Antibiotic Therapy in Wound Infection
Archives of Surgery, 1978To the Editor. —The article by Burdon et al, in theArchives(112:1169-1173, 1977) bears careful examination before reaching any conclusions. The efficacy of preoperative antibiotic administration for the prophylaxis of wound infection has been previously documented by Alexander et al, 1 and others.
