Therapeutic Dilemmas in Patients With Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody-Associated Vasculitis: Diffuse Alveolar Hemorrhage and Venous Thromboembolism. [PDF]
Objective Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) is a life‐threatening presentation of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody–associated vasculitis (AAV). Patients with AAV are at an increased risk of venous thromboembolic events (VTEs). These manifestations can co‐occur; however, the prognosis and management of these patients are poorly understood. Methods In

Background Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies comprise a family of autoantibodies that are often used as biomarkers for certain forms of small-vessel vasculitis; however, chronic infections tend to induce the production of antineutrophil cytoplasmic ...

The role of the host—Neutrophil biology
Abstract Neutrophilic polymorphonuclear leukocytes (neutrophils) are myeloid cells packed with lysosomal granules (hence also called granulocytes) that contain a formidable antimicrobial arsenal. They are terminally differentiated cells that play a critical role in acute and chronic inflammation, as well as in the resolution of inflammation and wound ...

Utility of serological markers in inflammatory bowel diseases: Gadget or magic? [PDF]
The panel of serologic markers for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) is rapidly expanding. Although anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies (ASCA) and atypical perinuclear antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (P-ANCA) remain the most widely ...

Pauci-immune glomerulonephritis in individuals with disease associated with levamisole-adulterated cocaine: a series of 4 cases. [PDF]
Exposure to levamisole-adulterated cocaine can induce a distinct clinical syndrome characterized by retiform purpura and/or agranulocytosis accompanied by an unusual constellation of serologic abnormalities including antiphospholipid antibodies, lupus ...

Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA)
Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) are a sensitive and specific marker for ANCA-associated systemic vasculitis. Using indirect immunofluorescence on ethanol-fixed neutrophils, two major fluoroscopic patterns can be recognised: a diffuse cytoplasmic staining (C-ANCA), and a perinuclear/nuclear staining (P-ANCA).

Antineutrophil cytoplasm antibodies and vasculitis [PDF]
Systemic vasculitis is a rare condition and diagnosis is often difficult. Any organ system can be affected and patients can present with an insidiously progressive illness, a remitting/relapsing pattern, or acute multisystem failure. The early institution of aggressive and potentially toxic immunosuppression may be necessary to minimise permanent organ

Inflammatory bowel disease-specific autoantibodies in HLA-B27-associated spondyloarthropathies: Increased prevalence of ASCA and pANCA [PDF]
Aims: An association between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and spondyloarthropathies (SpA) has repeatedly been reported. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether serologic markers of IBD, e. g.
