Facts and Misfacts on D‐Dimer Testing. Consensus Guidance From the Italian Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis (SISET)

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT D‐dimer defines degradation products derived from the proteolysis mediated by plasmin on cross‐linked fibrin. The evidence‐based use of D‐dimer in some conditions has been consolidated. Currently, however, there is an entrenched prescription of D‐dimer testing to screen otherwise healthy subjects that may induce prescribing physicians to start

Optimizing Asparaginase Treatment for Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Patients With Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: US Consensus Panel Recommendations

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Asparaginase is an integral component of therapy for pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoblastic lymphoma. The success of asparaginase‐containing regimens has led to trials of pediatric/pediatric‐inspired regimens incorporating asparaginase for treating adolescent and young adult (AYA) and adult populations with acute ...

Anticoagulation in COVID-19

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal - Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy, 2020
As hospitals worldwide continue to admit an influx of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients, the puzzling pathogenesis behind the witnessed mortality rates is progressively being pieced together. Aside from the established respiratory involvement,

Bleeding complications after cardiac surgery, before anticoagulation start and then with argatroban or heparin in the early postoperative setting

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2020
Objectives After elective cardiac surgery a postoperative anticoagulation is obligatory. With critically ill patients the conventional anticoagulation standard heparin is sometimes impossible, e.g. based on HIT II.

Protein S Enhances the Phagocytosis of Phosphatidylserine‐Exposing Erythrocytes: Implications in Sickle Cell Disease

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The major anticoagulant Protein S (PROS1) also contributes to the phagocytosis of apoptotic cells by bridging exposed phosphatidylserine (PtdSer) to the MerTK receptor on macrophages (efferocytosis). Whether PROS1 is involved in the splenic clearance of PtdSer‐positive senescent and altered erythrocytes such as erythrocyte ghosts (eryghosts ...

Evaluation of Different Dialyzers and the Impact of Predialysis Albumin Priming in Intermittent Hemodialysis With Reduced Anticoagulation

open access: yesKidney International Reports, 2019
Introduction: Systemic anticoagulation is widely used in routine clinical hemodialysis, but can be contraindicated in specific settings. Anticoagulant-free treatment regimens are prone to failure even in chronic intermittent hemodialysis.

A Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study on the Use of Weight‐Adjusted Dalteparin in Patients Over 90 kg With Acute Cancer‐Associated Venous Thromboembolism—The WAVe Study

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
The WAVe stdudy‐ A multicenter prospective cohort study of wieght‐adjusted dalteparin in patients over 90 kg with acute cancer‐associated venous thromboembolism. ABSTRACT Patients with cancer‐associated thrombosis (CAT) are commonly treated with low‐molecular‐weight heparin (LMWH), but whether dose capping is needed in patients over 90 kg is unclear ...

A unique case of protein-losing enteropathy as a complication of segmental arterial mediolysis

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery Cases and Innovative Techniques
Protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) can be caused by erosive and nonerosive gastrointestinal diseases, mesenteric lymphatic obstruction, and increased central venous pressure. Superior mesenteric artery pathology (SMAP), including dissection or occlusion is

MEW/PVA‐MA Hydrogel Vascular Grafts: Enhancing Hemocompatibility and Endothelialization

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
A biomimetic vascular graft combining biofunctionalized PVA‐MA hydrogels with a MEW scaffold is developed for small‐diameter applications. Gel‐MA and Hep‐MA incorporation enhances endothelialization and hemocompatibility, respectively, targeting the acute biological responses.
