Re: Sexual dimorphism and geographical variance: their impact on the reliability of the antilingula as a landmark in human mandibular surgery [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2021
The intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy (IVRO) is an orthognathic procedure that is used to correct dentofacial abnormalities, and is performed by approaching the lateral aspect of the mandibular ramus. This approach, however, precludes visualisation of the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) on the medial side, thereby placing it at risk of iatrogenic damage.

The importance of the lingula shape and antilingula placement in the dry human mandible [İnsan mandibula'sinda lingula mandibulae şeklinin ve antilingula lokalizasyonunun klinik önemi]

open access: yes, 2004
This study was carried on 124 dry human mandibles. The number of two sides(right and left) was 248. The aim of this study was to determine the shape of the lingula and the relationship between mandibular foramen and antilingula. Both of the lingula shape and the antilingula placement affect the surgical approaches to the canal contents. The lingulae of

The study of antilingula and its relation to the lingula and mandibular foramen, the presence of mylohyoid bridging in dry mandibles of South Indian population. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Maxillofac Oral Surg, 2015
The mandibular foramen and the lingula, because of their relation to the inferior alveolar nerve are of clinical significance for the orodental surgeons. Identification of the antilingula is important in mandibular ramus surgery in which the medial surface of the ramus is not visualized. The present study includes adult dry 50 mandibles of unknown age ...

Lingula and Antilingula as Anatomic Reference Points for Ramus Osteotomies [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dental Sciences and Research, 2014
Aim: To evaluate the role of lingula and antilingula as landmark to guide the oral surgeons. Methods: A total of 50 mandibles (100 sides) were available for evaluating the lingula and antilingula. Four measurements (W, X, Y and Z) were recorded for the mandibular foramen, lingula and antilingula in 2 planes (horizontal and vertical) by single trained ...

The Antilingula and Its Anatomic Relation to The Mandibular Lingula: A systematic review and meta-analysis with Clinical and Surgical Correlates

open access: yes, 2022
Skeletal deformities such as mandibular prognathism and mandibular retrognathism are frequently encountered by oral and maxillofacial surgeons and require surgical management by mandibular ramus osteotomy.

An osteo-radiographic study of the mandibular canal [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
Magister Chirurgiae Dentium (MChD)Even though the mandibular nerve is of great importance to the dentist, very little research on the course of the nerve and the relationship of the mandibular canal to the adjacent anatomical structures has been ...

Evaluation of mandibular anatomy related to sagittal split ramus osteotomy

open access: yes, 2012
Sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) of the mandible is one of the most common surgical techniques to correct mandibular deformities. In order to prevent many surgical anatomical problems, surgeons have found that further investigation of the anatomical

Study of the development of the area perilingularis

open access: yes, 2014
Introduction: The area perilingularis is an anatomo-functional complex that gathers the mandibular foramen, the lingula, the antilingula and the mylohyoid groove.

Anatomic study to determine a safe surgical reference point for mandibular ramus osteotomy

open access: yes, 2014
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to identify a surgical reference point on the mandibular ramus that can be used during ramus osteotomy to prevent injury to the inferior alveolar nerve.
