Bacteria have evolved unique mechanisms that allow them survive in the presence of strong selection pressures. Included in these mechanisms is the ability to share genetic determinants among and between species of bacteria thus spreading metal or antibiotic resistance traits quickly.

When the Executive Secretary of the Drug Research Board called to ask if I would participate in a Workshop on Dermatopharmacology, I pleaded that I knew little of the subject beyond the fact that the skin is a frequent site of toxic reactions to antimicrobial drugs, some of which are used with varying success to treat acne, pyodermas, and fungal ...

Antimicrobial resistance is developing rapidly and threatens to outstrip the rate at which new antimicrobials are introduced. Genetic recombination allows bacteria to rapidly disseminate genes encoding for antimicrobial resistance within and across species.

Better health is basic requirement of human being, but the rapid growth of harmful pathogens and their serious health effects pose a significant challenge to modern science. Infections by pathogenic microorganisms are of great concern in many fields such as medical devices, drugs, hospital surfaces/furniture, dental restoration, surgery equipment ...

Even in so-called "clean" surgery, the patient automatically gets some type of antimicrobial medication by mouth or injection, often without a stop order. A few days later, the patient may ask the doctor how much longer must the punctures and/or pills be taken. An answer might be no easier than the answer to WHY the medication.

ANTIMICROBIAL PHARMACODYNAMICS
Medical Clinics of North America, 2000The ultimate goal of antimicrobial therapy is to provide the best possible outcomes for patients. For this to occur, the clinician should be cognizant of many clinical, microbiologic, pharmacologic, and epidemiologic data as well as fundamental pharmacodynamic concepts.

Antimicrobial packaging is one of the many applications of active packaging. It is the packaging system which can stop or inhibit spoilage and pathogenic microorganisms contaminating foods. Antimicrobial function can be accomplished by adding antimicrobial agents in the packaging system or using antimicrobial polymers that answer conventional packaging
