The role of Akkermansia muciniphila in cancer: Mechanisms, therapeutic potential, and challenges

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Akkermansia muciniphila (A. muciniphila), regarded as a promising candidate for next‐generation probiotic applications, predominantly inhabits the intestinal mucus layer, where it plays a crucial role in maintaining gut barrier integrity and modulating immune responses. Recently, the bacterium has been recognized for its ambivalent influence on cancer,

Targeting SHMT2‐mediated membrane phospholipid remodeling for enhanced anti‐GCSCs treatment

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
Depletion of serine via serine hydroxymethyltransferase‐2 (SHMT2) knockdown in gastric cancer (GC) disrupted the maintenance of gastric cancer stem cell stemness by inducing membrane phospholipid remodeling and aberrant CD44 shedding within membrane lipid rafts. The synthesized HA‐Exo‐si SHMT2 demonstrated enhanced therapeutic efficacy and safety in GC.
