Dynamic Changes in Upper-Limb Corticospinal Excitability during a ‘Pro-/Anti-saccade’ Double-Choice Task

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2017
Under natural behavioral conditions, visually guided eye movements are linked to direction-specific modulations of cortico-spinal system (CSS) excitability in upper-limb muscles, even in absence of a manual response.

Explaining the variability of antisaccade performance in healthy participants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In the antisaccade task participants are required to saccade to the mirror image location of a sudden onset target. As such, the task provides a powerful tool with which to investigate the cognitive processes underlying goal-directed behaviour.

Changes in expectation impact multiple steps of the visual perceptual decision process in adults. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiol Rep
Abstract Perceptual decision‐making processes, particularly in the context of eye movements and reaction times (RT), have been studied to better understand how the brain integrates and responds to sensory information. Recent models have decomposed the process into multiple intermediate steps, including detection, instruction processing, decision, and ...

Slowed Prosaccades and Increased Antisaccade Errors As a Potential Behavioral Biomarker of Multiple System Atrophy

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2017
Current clinical diagnostic tools are limited in their ability to accurately differentiate idiopathic Parkinson’s disease (PD) from multiple system atrophy (MSA) and other parkinsonian disorders early in the disease course, but eye movements may stand as

Penny for your thoughts: A review and proposed model of socioeconomic status, working memory and worry

open access: yesBritish Journal of Developmental Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Socioeconomic status is a complex psychological construct linked to a number of professional and personal barriers, including cognitive deficits. Current explanations of the link between socioeconomic status and cognition focus primarily on influences of external factors on development, with less attention paid to internal psychological ...

Data from antisaccade tasks.

open access: yes, 2012
Comparison of mean±95%CI between 60 normal (non-ESM) subjects and 16 ESMs. A. Antisaccade directional error rate. B. Mean error pro-saccade latency. C. Mean correct antisaccade latency. Note different y-axis scales in B and C.

DTI‐ALPS as a Biomarker of Small Vessel Disease Progression and Amyloid‐β in Normal Aging: A 3‐Year Longitudinal Study

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 47, Issue 14, October 1, 2026.
A higher DTI‐derived ALPS index relates cross‐sectionally to both quantitative and visual measures of SVD and is associated with short‐term amyloid‐β accumulation in cognitively normal older adults. Also, greater amyloid burden and choroid plexus volume are associated with a more rapid deterioration in global cognition and processing speed.

All Is Relative—A Call for Considering “Physiologically Informed” Control Conditions to Improve the Mechanistic Understanding of the Effects of Physical Exercise on Cognition

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Psychology, Volume 67, Issue 5, Page 1246-1266, October 2026.
ABSTRACT There is a growing interest in elucidating the mechanisms that drive the benefits of physical exercise on cognitive performance. A key element for a better understanding of a particular phenomenon (e.g., the mediators of the exercise‐cognition interaction) is the selection of an appropriate control condition/group as the basis for causal ...

Short Report: Environmental Sensitivity in Children Is Associated With Visual Working Memory and Visual Search Performance

open access: yesInfant and Child Development, Volume 35, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
ABSTRACT Highly sensitive children perceive and process stimuli more deeply but the mechanisms enabling this deeper processing are not widely understood yet. Ninety‐seven 7–9‐year‐old (M = 7.99, SD = 0.34) UK primary school children (47% girls) completed tasks on visual working memory and visual search.
