Are all antral follicles the same? Size of antral follicles as a key predictor for response to controlled ovarian stimulation

open access: yesJournal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 2021
The aim of this study was to evaluate whether antral follicle size has any value with respect to antral follicle count (AFC) in predicting ovarian response to controlled ovarian stimulation. Patients who were considered to be normal responders based on their ovarian reserve markers were consecutively recruited.

Ontogeny of RSPO1, FOXL2, and RUNX1 during ovarian differentiation in the marsupial tammar wallaby

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background RSPO1 and FOXL2 are female sex‐determining genes involved in the differentiation and organization of the ovary in some eutherian mammals. Mutations or loss of function of these genes are associated with partial to full sex reversal in mice, humans, and goats.

Optimizing outcomes in intrauterine insemination: A narrative synthesis of two decades of clinical research (2000–2024)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a widely used first‐line fertility treatment, yet its success rates vary considerably. This review synthesizes evidence from peer‐reviewed studies published between 2000 and 2024, including randomized controlled trials, cohort and case–control studies, as well as systematic and narrative reviews identified ...

Correlation between basal antral follicle count and mean ovarian diameter with ovarian responsiveness in art cycles

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ̒Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Bābul, 2006
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Since, ovarian response during assisted reproductive technology (ART) depends on ovarian reserve so it is important to evaluate ovarian reserve before the ART cycle.

Counting ovarian antral follicles by ultrasound: a practical guide [PDF]

open access: yesUltrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2018
ABSTRACTThis Consensus Opinion summarizes the main aspects of several techniques for performing ovarian antral follicle count (AFC), proposes a standardized report and provides recommendations for future research. AFC should be performed using a transvaginal ultrasound (US) probe with frequency ≥ 7 MHz.

Classification of Atretic Small Antral Follicles in the Human Ovary

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2023
The reproductive lifespan in humans is regulated by a delicate cyclical balance between follicular recruitment and atresia in the ovary. The majority of the small antral follicles present in the ovary are progressively lost through atresia without reaching dominance, but this process remains largely underexplored.

Luteal phase stimulation versus follicular phase stimulation in poor ovarian responders: A systematic review and a meta‐analysis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Poor ovarian response (POR) complicates a substantial proportion of in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles, frequently causing cycle cancellation and suboptimal reproductive outcomes. Conventional follicular‐phase ovarian stimulation (FPOS) protocols often yield limited results, prompting the evaluation of alternative strategies such ...

Preantral follicle morphometry and ultrastructure of antral follicles in Anatolian Water Buffalo

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, 2023
This study aimed to evaluate quantitative and morphometric analyses of preantral follicles and the ultrastructural character- istics of antral follicles in different oestrous cycle stages in Anatolian water buffaloes. Twenty-four ovaries collected from twelve slaugh- tered Anatolian water buffaloes were classified macroscopically as luteal or ...
