The passion of butterflies: Notes on “translating” a Navajo poem by Rex Lee Jim
Abstract This essay honors three kinds of tradition. The first tradition is the poetry of Rex Lee Jim. The second tradition is the translation work of Blackhorse Mitchell. Mediterranean ecosystems face complex, multi‐trophic impacts from global‐change drivers, yet responses are often studied in isolation. Using the Doñana Protected Area as a case study, we illustrate how anthropogenic pressures on key species like cork oaks and rabbits, as well as increases in species like wild boar and invasive crayfish, lead to ...

Clumped Isotope Temperature Reconstruction Using Stalagmite Drip Cups
ABSTRACT Rationale Application of clumped isotope palaeothermometry to speleothems (carbonate cave deposits, e.g., stalagmites and flowstones) has been restricted largely to subaqueous samples because of kinetic fractionation processes that occur during subaerial speleothem formation, which lead to erroneously high inferred temperatures.

Numerical cognition arises from conserved mechanisms linking genes, neural circuits and behaviour. Using zebrafish as a tractable model, behavioural assays, whole‐brain imaging and genetic analyses can be integrated to identify neural and molecular bases of quantity discrimination. This framework provides a platform for studying numerical cognition and

Abstract Past studies of prostitution have mislabelled Mexican women as prostitutes when it is not clear that they had engaged in transactional sex. Here, we examine the history of prostitution between 1750 and 1865, detailing both legal frameworks and judicial evidence to address the reasons for the inflation of prostitution's presence in Mexico ...
