NEW ANTRUM TROCAR AND ANTRUM RASP
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1927The instrument illustrated here has been found useful in making a large opening into the maxillary sinus in the shortest possible time. The surgical route to the mastoid antrum is examined in its historical perspective. The contributions of an anatomist, Jacob Henle; a 19th century surgeon, MacEwen; and two 20th century surgeons, Jordan and Day, are discussed as examples of the many scientists and physicians who have contributed to the present state of the art in mastoid surgery.

Sinusitis of the Maxillary Antrum
New England Journal of Medicine, 1975Twenty-four adults with clinical evidence of sinusitis were studied by 65 needle punctures of the maxillary antrum. Fourteen of 15 sinuses with normal transillumination and 19 of 26 that were dull had normal aspirates, whereas 24 of 24 that were opaque had abnormal aspirates (P less than 0.001).

1. An opaque maxillary antrum is regarded as a sign, not a definite diagnosis. 2. The various technical pitfalls which may simulate disease in the maxillary antrum are described and discussed. 3. The anatomical variations which may produce opacity of the maxillary antra are discussed. 4.

Movements of the gastric antrum
Gastroenterology, 1956Summary Direct visualization of the gastric antrum is ordinarily available only to thegastroscopist, but knowledge of the form and type of movement of this region is of interest to all phyicians as a part of basic physiology. Photographs taken of the gastric antrum and pylorus are presented to show variations in physical aspects, forms and mechanisms ...
