Ants on the highway

open access: yesNatural Computing
We perform intensive computations of Generalised Langton's Ants, discovering rules with a big number of highways. We depict the structure of some of them, formally proving that the number of highways which are possible for a given rule does not need to be bounded, moreover it can be infinite. The frequency of appearing of these highways is very unequal

A checklist of the ants of Wyoming (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

open access: yes, 2010
The history of myrmrecology in Wyoming began when Fore1 described a new species, obscuripes in the genus Formica from Green River in 1886, four years before Wyoming Territory became a state.

Colonization and coexistence of non‐native ants on a model Atlantic island

open access: yes, 2023
Aims Colonization by non-native ants represents one of the gravest potential threats to island ecosystems. It is necessary to identify general mechanisms by which non-native species are able to colonize and persist in order to inform future prevention ...

Targeting Supramolecular Active Complexes of Nav1.7/Nav1.8 to Relieve Chronic Neuropathic Pain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In mice and patients with severe chronic neuropathic pain (NP), Nav1.7, Nav1.8, TrkB, and five cytoskeletal proteins form supramolecular active complexes (SMACs) with polygonal lattice structures as noxious signal amplifiers in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons.

Arthropod fauna of mammal-pollinated Protea humiflora: Ants as an attractant for insectivore pollinators?

open access: yes, 2003
Protea humiflora Andrews inflorescences are cryptic, but strongly scented and borne close to the ground (geoflorous) for ready access by small, non-flying mammals. During a study of P.

Using geospatial tools to combat fire ants

open access: yes, 2021
State of the art geo-spatial information capture, storage and analysis is vital in the ongoing battle against Red Imported Fire Ants (RIFA). In this context, this informative article relates to how geo-spatial tools and techniques can play an important ...

Nonhuman Complexity Poetics: Leaf-Cutter Ants and Multispecies Composition

open access: yes, 2022
In this article I examine leaf-cutter ants, and particularly their nest architecture, in terms of what I call an ‘ethological poetics.’ I propose that thinking about leaf-cutter architecture is an engagement with a radically alternative aesthetics.

Personalized Network‐Guided Neuromodulation Enhances Human Working Memory

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A personalized neuromodulation framework combining individualized functional brain network targeting with real‐time neural decoding is introduced. Using concurrent TMS–fMRI, participant‐specific stimulation targets and optimal frequencies are identified. Only optimal‐frequency stimulation improves working memory across sessions.

Covalent Reprogramming of Kinase Binders to Modulate Protein Abundance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electrophilic remodeling of a broad‐spectrum kinase binder reveals how subtle chemical changes reprogram protein fate. An acrylamide analog of a multi‐kinase binder selectively stabilizes Aurora kinase A (AURKA) by suppressing its ubiquitination, while a short‐linker variant converts this stabilizer into a degrader.
