Ants as food for Apennine brown bears

open access: yesThe European Zoological Journal, 2018
The value of ants to bears is a topic of substantial relevance for the small and highly endangered population of Apennine brown bears (Ursus arctos marsicanus) in central Italy. Following a previous food-habit study (2006–2009) based on scat analysis, we

A Minimally Invasive Framework Reveals Region‐Specific Cerebrovascular Remodeling in Aging Using Intravital Functional Ultrasound Imaging and Ultrasound Localization Microscopy (fUS‐ULM)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A high‐resolution intravital imaging platform combining functional ultrasound and localization microscopy enables longitudinal, minimally invasive assessment of cerebrovascular function in aging studies. The present investigation reveals aging‐related reductions in neurovascular coupling, arteriole‐to‐venule ratio and vascular density, introducing a ...

Protection of Vochysia elliptica (Vochysiaceae) by a nectar-thieving ant

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
Vochysia elliptica (Vochysiaceae) is a shrubby plant, which does not have EFNs. Camponotus ants thieve nectar, and can decrease plant fitness by making flowers less attractive to pollinators.

SLC6A14 Drives Mitochondrial Fusion and Oxidative Phosphorylation to Promote Cancer Stemness and Early‐Onset of Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Elevated levels of the plasticizer DEHP associate with earlier breast cancer diagnosis. DEHP enhances glutamine‐powered energy production via the transporter SLC6A14 and pushes mitochondria toward fusion, driving tumor initiation by boosting cancer stemness. Blocking SLC6A14 lowers stemness, slows tumors, and improves chemotherapy response.

One‐Pot Encapsulation of Enzymes in a Calcium Carboxylate Metal‐Organic Framework for Improved Buffer Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biocompatible, room‐temperature synthesis of Ca2⁺–4,5‐imidazoledicarboxylate MOFs enables in situ encapsulation of diverse enzymes with enhanced stability in phosphate buffer. A machine learning workflow integrating Latin hypercube sampling efficiently navigates the synthesis space, optimizing encapsulation efficiency, retained enzymatic activity ...

In Situ Construction of Cu+‐Ov‐Ce3+ Sites on CeO2 for Efficient NH3 Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An advanced CeCuOx nanorod catalyst is developed via in situ hydrothermal synthesis, and it exhibits remarkable NH3‐SCO activity, N2 selectivity, and stability. The addition of Cu induces the formation of abundant Cu+‐Ov‐Ce3+ active sites on CeO2 and switch the primary intermediate species of NH3 oxidation from bidentate nitrate species to monodentate ...

Marker Metabolite‐Based Multi‐Omics Analysis Identifies New Loci Controlling Thousand Seed Weight in Brassica Napus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Marker metabolite‐based multi‐omics (genome, transcriptome, and metabolome) analysis is conducted firstly to unravel the genetic basis of thousand seed weight (TSW) in Brassica napus. The released metabolite‐QTL‐gene network represents a valuable genetic resource, and the newly validated BnaTGA6 is a promising target for the improvement of TSW in ...
