Joint TOA and AOA Estimation for UWB Localization Applications

IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2011
A joint TOA/AOA estimator is proposed for UWB indoor ranging under LOS operating conditions. The estimator employs an array of antennas, each feeding a demodulator consisting in a squarer and a low-pass filter. Signal samples taken at Nyquist rate at the filter outputs are processed to produce TOA and AOA estimates.

Analysis of CRLB for AoA estimation in Massive MIMO systems

2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC), 2021
Massive MIMO systems provide high angular resolution in the next generation of wireless systems. This opportunity can be used to estimate the location of user terminals (UTs) accurately. In this paper, we analyze the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) of planar antenna arrays in Massive MIMO systems for Angle of Arrival (AoA) estimation.

Location Estimation by Using Multiple TDOA/AOA Measurements

2020 28th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU), 2020
In this study, a method that predicts the location of the target source by using multiple TDOA and AOA measurements instead of single TDOA and AOA measurements is proposed in order to increase the accuracy of locating using two measuring stations. The estimation performance of this method, which was proposed with detailed simulations, was analyzed ...

Experimental Demonstration of AoA Estimation Uncertainty for IoT Sensor Networks [PDF]

open access: possible2020 IEEE 91st Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC2020-Spring), 2020
In practice, the subspace-based algorithms such as Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) suffer from sensitivity to antenna-array response errors and therefore they require the assessment of the calibration gain and phase perturbations. This paper evaluates experimentally the accuracy of Angle-of-Arrival (AoA) estimation based on the MUSIC algorithm ...

A Unified Estimator for Source Positioning and DOA Estimation Using AOA

2018 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2018
Angles of Arrival (AOAs) are popular measurements to locate a signal source. They can yield a position if the source is near the sensors or a DOA if it is far away. Point positioning and DOA localization require different estimators and the knowledge if the source is near or far is needed.

A Localization Algorithm Based on V2I Communications and AOA Estimation

IEEE Signal Processing Letters, 2017
Motivated by safety applications in urban vehicular scenarios, where GPS does not typically provide the required positioning accuracy, a GPS-free localization technique that exploits vehicle-to-infrastructure communications is proposed. In particular, it provides for a vehicle to opportunistically use the beacon packets received from a roadside unit ...

Itetative AOA Estimation of Coherent Signals

TENCON 2007 - 2007 IEEE Region 10 Conference, 2007
The angles-of-arrival (AOA) estimation and beam- forming by an array antenna plays important roles in MIMO communication systems. In multipath environment, almost conventional subspace approaches with or without the eigendecomposition adopt the spatial smoothing (SS) using multiple subarrays.

AOA estimation for coexisting UWB signals with multipath channels

2014 International Conference on Telecommunications and Multimedia (TEMU), 2014
The applications of location-based service (LBS) grow rapidly and draw significant research attention recently. As the advance of localization technology, not only the LBS can be applied outdoors but also in indoor environments with abundant multipath channels.

Experimental Demonstration of BLE Transmitter Positioning Based on AOA Estimation [PDF]

open access: possible2018 IEEE 29th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC), 2018
The introduction of the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) standard significantly streamlines the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) applications. These applications often require the sensor positioning to link the measurements with its location. Therefore, it is essential to conduct studies on BLE transmitter positioning methods. Power fingerprinting

A Computationally Efficient Iterative MLE for GPS AOA Estimation

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2013
This paper presents a computationally efficient algorithm for GPS signal angle of arrival (AOA) estimation based on an iterative maximum likelihood estimator (iMLE) operating on an antenna array output. The iMLE has global convergence and therefore can estimate the true AOA MLE, regardless of the initial value, and has a simple mathematical form ...
